Pictures taken today. I had recently dragged some logs out of the woods into a field and today I cut them up and split some of it. No rounds will get hauled from this site before they are split. That's just the way I do it. I never haul rounds in, always split first. Then they just go direct into the stack, less handling that way.

I'll have to ask him, he's only done a few over the years, his dad, my brother-in-law, was the "mountain man" of the family. I know he has carved a couple walking staffs too. I'm thinking it's just a hobby for himself.

I had never thought of the root flare as a "product". That's why I love it here, great suggestions and sharing of ideas.

Thanks, I thought maybe he was a custom builder. My buddy had a guy in New Mexico build one for him. Turned out awesome!! That’s probably who I will use. (If I can quit buying chainsaws long enough to save up $3k)

You're absolutely correct. More than one beer has been consumed while admiring the harvested wood talking about the "process". :stacker:

The rounds keep piling up at my cottonwood log pile. Only about 10 logs left to buck.

Do half rounds count? They’re too heavy to load myself w/0 halving them first. Answered a Craigslist add yesterday, Ash tree down 2 miles from home. ITS ALL MINE! I got two truck loads today - see pic below. Probably 3 more loads left. I was too tired to do more today - getting old sucks..

Today’s haul got paid to drop a big oak in prep for a client’s home build. Still have another load tomorrow. Measured 31” dbh 42” at base after I low stumped it. Probably 1.5-2cord. A buddy took a truck load as well 3D921302-0782-4232-BC1D-CF6226F8938F.jpeg
