Last time my back went out all I was doing was going up the tractor steps. Was getting better and I don't do well trying to take it easy. Had a snowmobile at the shop I had to pick up, wasn't running, I made the mistake of grabbing the rear bar and went to pick it up and swing the rear over, felt a pop In my back and shooting pain, got a guy to help me finish loading and all the way home I had searing pain in my back.

Thanks for all of the encouragement everyone. It’s spasms and when it happens it’s debilitating. Cant even move and a cough or sneeze almost brings to tears to your eyes. Yes I had jut created a thread about cutting on your knees and was bragging (semi) about how flexible I am. Truth is I stretch when I feel an issue coming on because I don’t have the discipline to stretch every day when I feel good...human nature I suppose. It has been 4 years since my last back issue which ended up being really bad- lasted the better part of my summer and only ended with a cortisone shot in my vertebrae. I really felt like a rock star since then until this morning. I have tried an inversion table but didn’t feel much in terms of results. Thankfully, I was able to see a chiropractor this afternoon to get the spasms under control. Still in a good deal of pain though. Hoping when I get up I have some gains.

Oh, brother, I hate to hear that. Just said a prayer for you. I deal with some sort of back issue daily, it seems. Bad spasms are debilitating. Hope you get some relief quick.

I’m in the same department as you when it comes to stretching, if I’m feeling okay I forget all about stretching. I don’t want to take the time even when deep down inside I know I should. I never had any luck with an inversion table either unfortunately all I got out of using one was a sore knee for a few days. Hoping your feeling better soon sir.:)

Oh man that sucks. Hope you get back on track soon.
I had an operation on my spleen in Sept 87. They were able to repair the spleen and not remove it. Surgeon told me i could expect To experience back every now and again. And he was right.
    Back pain is no fun.

I have sciatica that flares up from time to time. There are days that I need help from my wife getting my socks on. Hopefully you get yourself straight sooner than later.

Hope you get through it somewhat quickly. I have been through it and I am religious about my McKenzie stretches every morning.

Get better soon!!! Back issues are tricky. I get up at 4:30 3-4 times per week and hit the gym, only lifting. I had issues with muscles being out of balance for a lack of better words, causing back and shoulder issues. Not sure if it is an option for you, but it helped me a lot. I have issues from past injuries, but the lower back issues and soreness are gone. Good luck and get better.

Some can use them and say they get much relief. I would love to use one but ordered to never use one. Seems if you have had hip replacement you could pull them out of the sockets and I'm told it can be terrific pain. I've had 3 replacements so will stay clear of them but can see no harm with others using them. Go for it.

I really feel for you. This came at a bad time but, is there ever a good time for it? I hope the pain goes away very soon.

Isn't it amazing how many folks have back problems? So many different ways to try to relieve them too.

Mine started after polio. Peaked in 1984. Had 3 surgeries and tried PT a few times but they never helped. Wore a hard brace for years but finally just stopped wearing it. I still take pain killers but am very careful to not overdo that.

On the spasms, they are like cramps and one over thr counter thing you can take is 2 benadryl. Don't take 3 or you may get really sleepy. I take 2 at night to stop leg cramps and it works.

What's amazing to me is how muscle spasm/cramps can be such a sharp stabbing pain that feels like a pinched nerve or something!
That's what ended up driving me to see a PT...rolled over in bed one night and had a sudden sharp pain so bad I thought I was surely going to be paralyzed forever more! Boy did that one ever give my wife a scare!

Did you go get a prescription for Prednisone? That stuff can make you into a new man. Last time I tweaked my back a 5 day run of that was all I needed. It was enough to reduce the inflammation and my back recovered. The first time it didn’t. The pain persisted after steroids. But it’s a good place to start.

    Hope you heal fast.

I tried a inversion table and I thought my head would explode. PT has this contraption that is like 2 wide belts one around your chest and the other around your hips and uses a hand air pump to stretch your back.
Maybe have your wife ratchet strap you to your bed and ratchet away the pain. Nurse ratchet to the rescue.

Dayum jrider  I get the same fully arresting spasms, too. It really sucks.

If one is considering an inversion table, you have to start at a very shallow angle, never go completely vertical out of the gate. You have to work up to that.
Mine has detents at 20°, 40°, and 60° and full vertical after that.

As Paul bunion suggested, prednisone is wonderful at silencing many pains. The spasms cause swelling and there in lies the problem with this type of condition/injury. Swelling and spasming literally pinch nerves and the lower back tries to lock up to prevent further movement/damage. I’m getting thru my second bout with this in a one year period. Need to do more of the custom PT exercises, but as noted above- human nature strikes regularly.
