So as many of you know I’m a high school teacher. Friday was the first day of our 10 day break. With no real family plans, I was anticipating cutting and splitting most of those days. I was out there this morning loading some rounds that had been dropped off onto a pallet to bring to the splitter. Some of the rounds were pretty big and while rolling a good sized one onto the splitter I felt this sudden stabbing in my lower back and down I went screaming out no, no, no this can’t be happening right now! I have a history of back spasms but it’s been four years since I’ve had any issues. It took me 5 minutes to get back on my feet and on the tractor. Once I parked the tractor under cover the 75 yard walk to my truck took me another 5 minutes. Ugh I’m in so much pain and have little hopes of cutting any wood in the next few days! I’m beyond po’d!!

That sucks, hope it’s nothing serious. Nothing worse than having time, nice weather, nice logs, hungry saws and having an injury that keeps you from working.

That really sucks, my back will go out from time to time as well with stabbing pain and full out spasms, the one time it took me 20 mins to get my boots on, so I feel your pain.

I feel your pain. I get something similar I call the 2 day back attack. Always when I start work cold not dressed warm enough and always when I have big plans to get a lot done. Just gotta let it run its course. At least there’s you tube and this site!

I deal with back issues too...always thought it was a disc issue, but after a particularly bad bout I ended up at PT and found out it was actually a muscle issue...they came up with some custom exercises for me, and it helped a lot. I'm actually supposed to do them everyday, but have found that doing them when I start having issues, has stayed off any further major attacks so far. Knowing exactly what the issue is also helps me know what to avoid to trigger problems too...usually anyways...sometimes it comes out of nowhere for seemingly no reason though too. That's where a muscle relaxer script and occasionally OTC pain meds (try not to take them unless really needed though) come in handy to keep me moving...which for me, always seems to be the best plan...laying around doesn't help loosen things back up, but getting back to my normal routine does...sometimes it does take a day or two of laying around to even get to the point of being able to push through into some kind of normalcy...
    Feel better soon!

So sorry to hear about this. It really stinks when you know you have some free time coming & make plans in your mind & something like this happens. I feel so defeated when that happens. And to think you were just mentioning stretches for your back the other day on one if you’re other posts!!!!!!!
I certainly hope your injury is short lived & the excruciating pain level subsides quickly.

Can’t ‘like’ this thread. Hope you heal up quick.

I don’t get anything that bad, but alternating heat and ice always seems to help me out the most. Ice packs and a tied sock full of dry rice for a min or 1:30 in the microwave.

Dude! I think we jinxed you with all that talk about sawing on our knees and how limber you are:rofl:  Seriously though, I’m sorry For the crappy timing. When it happened last time, did it last very long? Maybe time for a massage to help matters. Praying your downtime is less than expected and you’re able to get back at it soon.

Defeating is the best word to describe this feeling. I’ve known it before myself:headbang:

Thats sucks. Be smart as your health is more important. Easy for me to say as i work with herniated discs all the time. Do you wear any type of brace/support when cutting? I have one and try to wear it most of the time. Get well fast my friend.

That sucks jrider . Ive been fortunate and really don't have back issues. I get sore and stiff at times, but nothing major. Hope you recover soon. And you get the you suck award for your 10 day break.:D

Such a bummer to get an injury on the first day of break too. I have had that happen and it stinks.

Regarding your back, stretches and maybe even yoga might help. I don't know much about yoga but I hear the views can be nice in a group setting...

There is a thing called an inversion table that some people with back problems swear by. Never tried it but I want to!

Can't like that. I've also been curious about the inversion tables. Anyone have experience?

I borrowed my brothers...it did me no good. My boss has one and loves it though...guess it just depends what your issues are...takes some getting used to also...I personally hated the pressure it puts on your head, they say you get used to it...

I've had off & on back problems. No fun at all. Especially frustrating when you've got time off and plans on how to use it! Hope you heal up quickly.
