I feel that way sometimes. That is why I have been looking at the gasifiers (Heatmaster or Crown Royal) they claim you can cut consumption by up to 50%. I enjoy the cutting and splitting but it does wear on me. We are not getting any younger.
Indeed! I’m am very interested in possibly updating our OWB. Just wondering if I’ll see the payback over the upcoming years. Sometimes I wonder how much longer I’ll be able to cut larger amounts of firewood. If I was in my 20s or 30s or even early 40s it would be a no brained. In your research are you leaning towards one brand over the other?
Yes I am leaning towards the CR7300E I have spoken to the dealer in my area. He had three in stock. In speaking with him he told me that I would see a significant reduction in the amount of wood needed, the company advertises up to 60% less wood, the dealer said realistically 40% reduction based on units he has installed. I think if I can get down to 6 cords a year I can handle it even if I have to buy my wood cut and split.
Yes I'm not sure how that is going to work out but will find out. It is a significant investment, but my Central Boiler is 23 years old and doesn't owe me a thing and now seems like a good time to move forward.
It was between the Heat Master and Crown Royal I am going with CR the dealer/installer is local and is very knowledgeable on OWB's.
A buddy had an OWB burned 20 cord a year; had 3 daughters and wife saw propane bill for showers in summer so he heated his outdoor pool!! Used to love going to his joy and swim in 80 degree water in may til October Kids grew up he got older, built smaller house no pool for me now!!
Split your wood into bigger pieces. You can probable save yourself 25% of your splitting, stacking and loading time. You're better off than people with just a wood stove or two. When you feel like you're overwhelmed, calculate against that in what you have that is easy.
Finally finished cutting it today. The last two logs. Split a couple pieces and started stacking. Broke for lunch and didn't have the energy to get back at it. Oh! well it will be there another day.
Finished splitting & stacking my tri axle load this morning. It was a lot of 8” & smaller diameter red oak, beech, & soft maple. Stacked it measures out at a wee bit over 6 cords.
