With the crazy wind we have had for a day now and as dry as we are it was bound to happen. Near me the 4 closest departments have had to fight grass fires. There are a couple BIG fires going elsewhere in the state, one an hour east in a river valley and another near and by now probably in a national grassland. Both have multiple departments fighting the fires. View attachment 296699 View attachment 296700 The wind has been crazy and once something starts, it's gone! 1st pic is some wind speeds, second is yesterday afternoon, I had to stop on a little traveled road and take a pic of all the dirt in the air reducing visibility to 1/2 mile.
That is some crazy wind! Grass fires happen every spring. I've never understood why people don't understand the danger but some keep lighting fires every spring. It is okay with no or very little wind but it does not take much to make a little flame into a big fire.
Wow thats some scary wind. Ain't but so much you can do with a fire when the wind's blowing like that..... Curious as to what your relative humidity and temps are? Hopefully those winds will lay down soon.
The RH is very low and our temperatures are bipolar. Monday was super 60s, this morning low teens, by weekend back to upper 60s.
Just saw a posting by the state. Our flagship town of tourism Medora was ordered to evacuate and national guard is deployed with helicopters and water buckets to assist fight that fire near Medora and the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Total in the state for the year so far 30,000 acres have burned.
