Replaced carburetor, gas line and filter, and airfilter. Adjusted carb to nominal settings. Chainsaw starts easily and idles well, but bogs on trigger pull, carb adust for later. Raising master control up to stop does not stop the engine. I've uploaded pictures. There is a loose insulated black wire.

The loose black wire goes into a hole on the black plastic rocker switch that operates the choke , that steel spring piece then goes in so when it goes to the stop position the gold pin on the black wire makes contact with it grounding it out. If I am not mistaken the braided cable gets mounted to the steel spring piece when it is mounted this provides a ground back to the engine.

I thought I had the repair manual on file but only had the IPL. Figured that pic would help.

Yeah, that master control is not Stihl's best design. I had to replace mine as it lost its spring tension.

Not sure if they are even available to download or for dealers only. Maybe one of the guys here can answer that for you.
That picture was just off of an internet search.

I got things back together. The black kill wire is short and tight. The master control rod barely fits with the kill wire inserted. I will report back how it's working

Well, I pranked myself. I had bolted the carb over the kill wire. So I reset the carb with the kill wire free, and had tons of fun getting the spring thingie and ground wire with screw all in place. That took many efforts, but finally got it. Saw started right up, high idle, so time to adjust the carburetor.

Also I could not get the air filter that came with the carburetor kit to fit, it was slightly too big. I put the old air filter in.
What is a good source for the air filter?

I thought the wire looked a little short. Show us a pic of how you have it back together.

There might be several different filters for that saw. I'm not a fan of any aftermarket filters as usually don't have good fitment. Not sure if Stihl has them anymore or not.
