Good advice! I personally despise lawyers but it seems what society is evolving into!

I agree with many other members, fight this and dont go at it alone. Maybe somehow turn the table on the board and show that by limiting the amount of firewood one is allowed to dry on their property, they are promoting bad burn habits and potential property damage or worse. By the way, you don't have a neighbor named "karen" do you? :emb:

You have a few options. I would ask if someone is complaining and if so find out the point of contention. It might be something minor and easily addressed. It could just be a ordinance officer who is an ahole. If so, stack it with a response built in and fight it. This guy from my hometown had an issue (not firewood) and has made their lives hell. Just curious. Do you know or have an idea of which neighbor complained?

An incorporated town of 211 people. There are housing additions with more people.

I would look into every service an incorporated town is supposed to provide by statute, and start making demands. I have a friend who got fed up and among other things won a seat on the board. Made for some great entertainment.

I’m in the city limits and it wouldn’t surprise me if someone has called to complain about noise smell and wood piles.
I used to have a horse and someone called to report neglect, because he was standing at the fence in the rain. It’s not my fault people stopped and fed him. Animal control came out to make sure he had shelter and was in good health. People can’t mind their own damm business.
Sorry you have to move wood

If your neighbors burn wood, but don’t burn much, perhaps you can ask if you can stack 6 cords each on two or three of their properties and in exchange you can provide them with properly seasoned wood for their fireplaces, outdoor fire pits or wood stoves.. That would allow you to store 18-24 cords, continue to sell some and might even give an indication as to who, if anyone, complained about your hoard...

I agree! Time to smoke out the trouble maker. You probably already have an idea of who it is, but my guess is it’s some video playin, skinny jeans wearin, contractor hirin guy (I use the term loosely) who finally got tired of hearing his wife, who, after watching all the things you accomplish, nags him about how he doesn’t do anything productive like the neighbor.  In fact, you should be ashamed of yourself for flaunting your manly skills for all the neighbors to see! It simply not fair. :lol:Don’t expect to ever find out who did the complaining though. These kind of complaints are usually filed in an anonymous fashion, for the intent would simply be too obvious once you knew who the complainant was:rofl:

What if the cordwood still identifies as a tree? Is it allowed then?

If I had a stupid amount of money to burn I’d have inflatable decoy wood piles made and line the whole property with them. The “entity” needs to be kept in check since it’s favorite thing to do is overreach. We have to keep pushing back because for every one of us that prefer to be left alone and not tell our neighbors how to live, there’s a certain type of person that wants nothing more than to exercise the coercive power of the “entity” exponentially and to increase its size and scope in blind pursuit of progress.

You'd be surprised how many people really don't understand the concept of a 3 year plan is to ensure you're always burning clean, dry wood. In fact I don't think anyone who knows me has understood the concept of "so much firewood" until I explained that small detail to them. Then, and only then, did 3 years of stacked firewood make sense to them.

Hopefully your township overlords will understand. Good luck!

I found this in the city code
It sounds like you may be able to get permission to store more than 6 cords
    Good luck.

§ 92.078 STORAGE OF FIREWOOD ON RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY.

    (a) For the purposes of this section, unless apparent from the context, certain words and phrases used in this section shall be defined as follows:

CORD OF WOOD. A unit of quantity for cut fuel wood, equal to 128 cubic feet in a stack measuring four feet by four feet by eight feet.

FIREWOOD. Neatly stacked burnable wood cut into lengths of approximately one to two feet that require no further cutting of the wood prior to placing it in a wood burner or fireplace.

    (b) No person shall store firewood on residentially zoned property, except for use on the premises and in conformance with the following.

    (1) No more than six cords of firewood shall be stored at any time, without the written approval of the health and fire departments.

    (2) A. The firewood must be cut and neatly stacked and may not be stacked closer than five feet to any property line and not higher than six feet from grade.

    B. Exception: Firewood may be cut and neatly stacked on or near the lot line or against a fence, provided that it is no higher than the fence and that it is located a minimum of six feet from any structure on adjacent property.

    (3) All brush, debris and refuse from processing of firewood shall be promptly removed from the premises.

    (1992 Code, § 19-56.1) (Ord. 39-88, passed 5-23-1988)

My coworker lived in an old rental farmhouse (leaky) with LP $$ heat, so they kept it pretty cool in the house...their husky dog would "talk" to go out, (husky owners will know what this means) then just lay on the deck and be difficult to come back in later

I have been through your problem. Someone said my 40 cords ( full cord not face) was a fire hazard ( neatly stacked top covered) Got the same type of letter. Which of course completed ticked off the good humor man ( not a good idea) first thing I did was read all the local, county and state rules. Used their own rules or lack there of to come to a compromise, but then they started in with all kind of nit picking. Became a never ending battle. Things that were approved when I built home were suddenly no longer acceptable yada yada. So I pulled up stakes and sold the place. I wasn't the only one some friends couple miles away went through the same thing with their barn. Was an original family farm. Over the years portions of land were sold for development. All of a sudden the barn was deemed unsafe and condemned by the city ( the old city slickers move to country -bitch about farm next door) Guess it was blocking someone's view. That little move by the city cost the city dearly. Your best shot is the fire dept deal. By the way I did get even with city, they approved a subdivision on top of the hill about 1000 yards from my place. The surface water run off was not controlled resulting in flooding to those of us at a lower level, sued the pants off them. ( that's what I mean by not ticking off the good humor man).
