I guess I need to get something better then the construction hardhat I have left from work which is a good one, but does not have provisions for ear muffs. Right now, I will wear ear plugs with it. Anyway, do you have or use a particular hard hat setup that you think is better than some of the others? I mean, I hate cheap headgear, etc. and want a good one if I am going to spend the money for it.

Just looking for recommendations for a good one, vs. a cheaper possibly cheaper made, homeowner's version. I would rather buy once, cry once about the price, then put up with a cheaper made item, if possible.

I have used Petzl and Kask vented helmets for 25yrs
They both fit really well and I think they have muff attachment options. I’ve always used plugs, so I can’t say for sure. You can attach visors for added eye protection or in place of glasses. They don’t cost as much as the Protos

I use the Protos, and it is the least bothersome and most helpful piece of safety equipment that I use.

I'm looking at buying the Kask Zenith right now. I've been going in with the ball cap for a few seasons now and I feel like I'm pushing my luck!

Thanks for the info, guys. So, no one mentioned the Stihl helmets, they are not all that expensive, but I don't know about quality.

I will look into some of these other brands, mentioned.

I have the husqvarna one. Pro forest helmet.

It's great. Haven't tested the impact resistance and don't plan to. It has saved my face and eyes from chips and twigs though and the ear protection is good. It's comfortable too.

A hardhat is great for falling trees. The face shield would be nice for running a weed eater/brush cutter.

Yep I am that guy with the trimmer and helmet, look pretty goofy but it offers good protection. Some clippings and rocks still sneak in underneath the shield, but way better than without. Also, still need safety glasses too.

Well, I went ahead and ended up buying the Husqvarna Technical Forest Helmet System, hard hat with ear muffs and face screen from Bailey's plus I finally pulled the trigger and broke down and also ordered some Woodland Pro chainsaw chaps, also. I was concerned that my good luck might run out, one of these days, as much chainsawing as I do, anymore.

Last week I ordered some chaps a helmet and some gloves. There was a post maybe 2 weeks back that was... motivating.

Yep, PPE is important. I worked construction for 35 years, and it's amazing how much PPE has evolved over the years. I am all for being safe, but sometimes I felt like OSHA went overboard on it. And the companies I worked for and in, often went overboard on it. But I know it has saved lives, and lesser injuries, but sometime it didn't help much. People still got hurt, and sadly killed once in a while, unfortunately, you can't put enough PPE on to guard against being careless or stupid, but it helps.

All it takes is second to mess up.

Bringing back an old thread here but have a related question - how many folks wear a helmet when bucking firewood at home? I do not cut down trees, this would not be bucking firewood out in the woods, just on my back patio or in the driveway. I always wear chaps, boots (though not steel toe, I probably should upgrade there), gloves, safety glasses, and ear protection, but wasn't sure if a helmet was really necessary just bucking firewood at home.

I dont use a helmet for bucking, but probably should have a face screen/shield which would be attached to a helmet...

I've been in construction all my life and i HATE hard hats! I don't usually even wear a hat unless its cold out or sunny.

I wear my Stihl helmets whenever I am using a chainsaw. It has both a face shield and ear muffs and I need both when running the saws.

I ware my Stihl helmet/earmuffs/face shield when ever running a saw and I highly suggest it. Better to be safe than sorry.

Same here now that I have a helmet with face and ear protection.

All it takes is one little thing and you could get hurt seriously. An ounce of prevention.....

I still prefer the original skull bucket and H10B peltors. My prescription glasses are safety glasses. I do use a combo helmet face screen earmuffs one for pole saw work. Never wear chaps but I do use steel toes.
