Chestnut oak that is. Something new and different instead of the same old same old. Ive only cut a very small amount in the past and most here know i wont take much oak anymore as i frown on the 2+ year wait for it to dry. This was right next to two recent scores. Nice straight logs, fresh cut, not dirty, no prickers or vines, manageable size. Couldnt pass it up. Cut it to my size. The chalk i was using was the same color as the lichens. Had a hard time finding a couple marks! LOL!!! I noticed the drying in from the old cut end on the left. Nice full load. I left nuglies behind. There was some limb wood left too. Knew it'd be close. 261 cut it all. Havent cut any white oak since Fall 2019 and was sniffing the splits/cuts! Has a whiskey/vanilla aroma to those who are curious.
I had pulled a couple of the twistier limbs but didnt buck them unless needed to top off the load. Had to be a wheelbarrow full of nuggets there too. Battery died on the camera so no pics what i left.
Nice score. I was halving a small stack of 6" rounds from last summer this past weekend. I had to sniff each and every one Nice smelling wood, probably the best scented oak I've come across.
I’ve started filling holes in my yard with knot cutoffs and short irregular chunks from splitting knots. Privacy fences are better built with square splits from straight trunks.
Those rounds are the perfect size for splitting! I’m with you on the oak. I’ve cut a fair amount this year. May just set it aside for my personal stash. We’ll see how much I have. The cone is a good idea! Not much shoulder there on the side you’re working on
I wasnt keen on cutting on this road until i cut across the street three weeks ago and was able to park off the road. There is almost no traffic. I direct vehicles as i see/hear them coming. I just got the second cone. Friend of mine found it. Safety is my main concern when cutting roadside. Had it been a busy road...no way!

I only use blue chalk to mark logs due to being colorblind and most other colors blending in too much
Weird, last year when I cut my first chestnut oak, it smelt nasty! Everything about elbow size and smaller had me turning up my nose. Base wasn’t as offensive. Guess everyone smells different. Nice score regardless.
Depending on the bark bright yellow, pink, red, and green chalk can all get lost on a log for me. Blue never does. My wife tells me I take purple chalk from our kids bin too but it’s all blue to me.
