These few 60 degree days here means the burn season is winding down. I'll still have quite a few more fires yet and we had overnights last year in May. I cut through the winter generally then split in the spring. Just had the splitter out for the first round tonight. Decided to take some measurements and looks like we'll end up at 4 full cords and that includes what is still on the patio to finish the season. So where is everybody else landing ?
My neighbor shut his boiler down for the season. We have a couple 30 degrees nights coming up and 8 have some trash wood to burn, so I plan to go until May. One load a day for now.
I'm sitting in a really good spot with the wood I have on hand ready to burn. All told I went through a little over 3 cords this year. I might have a few more fires or so, one here or there but my burning days are drawing to a close fast. I still have a half tank of heating oil so on a lot of those 40 degree mornings I'll let the furnace do the work. No sense in lighting a fire at 8am when by 10 it's already 55.
I have gone through my usual 3 cords there about. I will burn all the way into may. I am using the stove everyday. Pretty typical for here.
I’ve probably burned close to 4 cords, didn’t keep track as well as I had planned to. But since I joined up with you fine folks I have more wood ready to go at all times and I think I burned more wood and kept the house warmer all winter than I have in the past, simply because I have plenty of fuel on hand. Looks like I might have around 5 cords css left at the end of the season. And that’s not counting the cottonwood logs that I hope to sell as bundles with the granddaughter. It’s nice to be ahead even if it’s not 3 years ahead! (YET)
Seems like we are heading into the spring SS, as you said though, we will have overnighters well into mid/late May.
Oh, and we've burned around 5.5-6 full cord heating exclusively with wood this season so far, I expect another half cord will get me to the end of the burn season.
I'm burning once a day now in the evening. Though, I fell asleep on the couch last night at 9 and didnt wake up until 1:00, so I just went to bed and Im now running the boiler to take the chill out as a result. I've burned way less than usual so far. Probably a half cord less so far.
Estimate I’ve burned about 2.5 cord this winter which is a new low for me. No oil. Just not keeping the house as warm as usual. I like it a bit chilly over hot.
Looks like it will be the usual 4-4.5 by spring...I supplemented with some junk wood that needed cleaned up around the wood shed, and some branch wood from an EAB Ash that came down in a storm at work last fall, so I don't have an exact total this year...
3 to 3.5 cords here. that is around normal. Started with 2 cords up at the house and ended up bring up another full cord plus some ash I dug out of the Oak pile. Down to about nothing ready to go. As long as it stays like this night fires only.
Looks like a string of days next week with highs in the low 50's. Will be running the owb for a little while longer.
I let the fire go out a week or so ago and switched over to oil. Looks like we burned about 3-3.5 cords. Really happy with that number as 6 has been my average for the past 10 years. Switching over to an add-on wood furnace instead of a smoke dragon really made a huge difference. We were warmer than ever this season. Wish I did that years ago.
Not sure how much we burned this year but less than normal. But, the heating season is not over yet! I even started a fire this morning. Temps in the 60's is great outdoors but not in my house.
By the time I shutdown I will have burned between 2 or 2-1/2 cord, usually just overnight burns now but I did start one this morning. I will continue the overnight burns till nighttime temps are averaging low 60’s.
I will measure up my empty spaces at the wood pile and give an estimate of how much wood was used this season. Just not right now as there is quite a bit of heating left before I start to think about shutting down the OWB!
