I like the air space between. Im learning the hard way not to tight stack when multi tiering. Oak gets moldy and wood doesnt dry well.
This maple is heavy!!! I had to buZZsaw BRAD the heck out of these. Kamo even tried to help me get them to the tailgate. I split 90% of it and will do the rest today. I let kamo hold the axe and he’s dying to use it. I hold it with him to get loose bark off and small twigs. Any advice on how old your kids were when they used stuff like this. I think i got a pocket knife when i was 10 or so. Kamo is 7 1/2.
Do Depends on the individual kid. I’ve worked with a guy that is 50 and wouldn’t want to be near him if he had a hatchet in his hand
Sugar maple is HEAVY when fresh cut green. I can load them intact up to +/- 16" but will now half or quarter them just to make it easier to handle. I can get a tighter load in the PU too. Kamo is getting BIG! What are you feeding him?
The air gap works well and im splitting onnthe smaller side. I tell people i would rather see them burn a little smaller and drier than a big moist all nighter, good response when i tell them that. I had four 25 foot rows that i stacked in July 2020 and it turned out so good i sold it to very happy customers in January.
Yea i feel like he needs new shoes every month. Hes an eating machine, its nothing for him to whack down 2 waffles a couple yogurts and peanut butter sandwiches by noon.
Woodwhore PPE most cuts with axes/hatchets come to hands feet and shins. So a good pair of gloves shoes and plastic shin guards (reuse hockey equipment). His working clothes! easier if dad is setting a good example
He’s out helping you in the woods so much...showing responsibility...if he were my son, I’d at least let him use it while you’re together. My son has an estwing hatchet that his papa gave hive at our approval. Sometimes can’t get him to put it away when he is done with it but he loves chopping down the sumac behind the houseGet him a pair of shin guardsIve considered the 576. Have you been been pretty pleased with it?
I love the 576, its a beast. I honestly havnt used it for a while since i got the new echo 620p. Echo has great power but most of all it really sips the gas, full tank lasts forever.
Been hearing more and more about the echo line. Seems all those who give em a try like em. Perhaps I should broaden my horizons as well. Looking to eventually add a small Top handle saw and a larger saw than my 455. Figure that would cover most of what I cut.
