I am in awe every time I see them. However, where we live now we rarely see them. That for sure is one thing I miss about the UP.

Wow, Rope!! That’s absolutely incredible!! I saw them once. I was leaving for work at about 4:30 in the morning. I couldn’t figure out what was going on. It looked like huge green and purple headlights shining on the sky over the top of the mountains to the north. Then it clicked what they were. I ran upstairs to the bedroom. I scooped up my wife and carried her outside. I set her down and pointed to the sky. She and I just stood there until they dissipated. It was awesome. She had tears in her eyes. We’ve known each other since we were kids. She’s always talked about wanting to see the northern lights as long as I can remember. But my experience was not nearly as vivid as the pictures you posted. Thanks for those. My wife is looking at them now. Absolutely beautiful.

Those are some awesome pics, I saw them once here in Iowa about 25 years ago but no colors then I saw them in color in around Crosby,ND & Westby,MT. I just pulled over along the road & hopped out to gaze @ them then spent about 45min standing in our truck yard staring at the sky. Seeing them in color was one of the most awe inspiring things I have ever seen.

Wow, that's amazing....I imagine they're even better in person.

Can that happen at anytime of year, or only certain times? I want to see that some day.

Stunning! Always cool to see them down here in the lower 48, but that’s a bit rare where I am and never as dramatic as this.

To see a display like this is awe inspiring, they various feelings you have as you watch them is really hard to describe. It’s really something to one needs to experience, to truly understand the magnitude.

Awesome pictures Rope . We get them on occasion here but no as good as these. Always loved when we hunted in northern Quebec and Labrador, those would light the sky and “dance” for hours. Sky would stay bright most of the night.

Its a wintertime thing only for Alaska, because it need to be dark to see them. Summer time we have 24 hours of daylight.
