Erik B My hatchette or matchet as i call it. Fiskars made, a machete, hatchet and cleaver in one. I use it mostly for debarking when loose but will use it for chopping vines in tangles. Ive split kindling with it too. Ive even use it to carry rounds when i didnt have log tongs. Handy little tool
That does look like a handy tool. I will look around and see if I can find one. I have lots of vines, mostly grape, around here as well as blackberry canes. I can't walk thru the woods without leaving a bit of blood behind
Its not very good in terms of a free swinging machete and not the reason i got it. Chops good when it has something firm behind what you are chopping. Vines on trunks for instance. Ive debarked a lot of the locust on site from recent scores with it. No blood shed please. Work safe my friend!
I am usually wearing a short sleeve shirt when working in the woods. There are a lot of things that can scratch and poke me enough to shed a little bit of blood. Many times I don't know I am bleeding until I see a drop hit the ground or feel something sticky. Nothing serious that would need emergency medical attention. I just took a quick look at the Stihl site and didn't see anything that came close to matching what you have. I guess if I have gone over 40 years and gotten by OK maybe I don't really need it
Got another run in this morning, going back for more tomorrow. Thinking this load is oak by the leaves on the ground buy the tree.
5 loads is impressive! Great work, and the help loading while you’re cutting makes all the difference in the world!
Another load of BL! Has to be the majority of what you cut. I’d be interested to know what percentage of your years hoarding it represents.
fooled me! Even better than BL. On my bucket list to get some hedge someday. The farthest East ive seen it mentioned on here was NJ. A chance its in Connecticut.
