Cutting trail this morning with a friend and one of my boys. In some thick laurel and I felt a little buzz on my left leg. I almost always wear my chaps and certainly glad I was today or I’d be writing from the urgent care or worse. $100 reminder to stay alert and saw size doesn’t matter. I’ll be shopping for a new pair of chaps today. That was a 340 Husqvarna.
Close calls always make you a believer in Safety! Glad that it wasn't more serious and that you are ok. Thank you for sharing.
Can't really like this post. It's a reminder that even the most experienced chainsaw operator can make a mistake. I'm happy that you didn't get injured M2TheB.
After getting my chainsaw the first things i bought were a helmet and chaps, after seeing pictures of what can happen when the running saws chain hits a plain pant or bare leg i am glad i bought them.
I'll gladly like that one, shredded chaps beats shredded legs any day! Thanks for giving us all an easy reminder!
damm Glad to see the chaps acted as advertised. Labonville Premium Chainsaw Chaps I wear those. Stay safe, buddy.
a chainsaw injury averages over a 100 stitches. and the e-room will cost more than a pair of chaps. unless you have excellent insurance .-.. --- .-..
Very glad to see your chaps did their thing. I’ve been pretty religious wearing mine. Couple times just cutting cookies in the driveway and I don’t put them on but it’s getting rarer. Check out the Technical Husky chaps. They are much more useful in brush as they wrap tight around your leg from the knee down. I really like em.
Back in the saddle. Turned to Craigslist Got a nearly new pair of chaps. And brand new jacket and helmet, neither one I wear now but have been thinking about the helmet. Pretty much got the chaps and the other two were free.
Any of that stuff stuck in the clutch system of your saw? My neighbor nicked his chaps with MY 661. Not only did it cost him over $100 to replace his chaps, it cost him another $90 to fix MY 661. That was my first and last time to loan a saw!
Good thought. I’ll have to look. I ran it for another half hour without any noticeable difference It didn’t grab and stall. Pretty much what you see on the ground next to the guide bar is what I pulled off the chain.
Yep, I've smoked two pair over the years, it just happens. I keep a spare pair just in case. What could be a really bad day turns into changing chaps & going back to work. At +/- $100, it's cheap insurance compared to co pay, lost time, or worse. I'm anything but the safety nazi, but I do wear my chainsaw safety gear religiously. Saves a ton of time & money, & maybe my life. Glad you're not hurt & got new gear, even if it's "off brand".
Had a pair of chaps sawn on a pair of bibs last year. They work pretty good,a little heavy but the straps help carry the weight. I've put many tanks fuel through my husky 340. It's been one of the best saws I've ever owned.
I’m ashamed to admit it, but I’ve been cutting all these years without chaps. Almost always wear safety glasses, a lot of times hearing protection, but no chaps. After seeing this today, I finally ordered some for myself. It’s been a long time coming. We’ve all got too much to lose.
