I get a PM from Eric Schamell last night. Free black locust on Craig's List 20 minutes from me. Too far for him. I called last night and the guy answered to my surprise. Set it up for this afternoon and had at it. Tree service just took them down. Two good size trees in flat yard. IMG_4383.JPG Back right into back yard, buck, and load. IMG_4386.JPG 500i devoured the bigger rounds. 261 pitched in. IMG_4387.JPG IMG_4388.JPG
Thought i might get it all in one load...nope. Going back tomorrow for the rest. IMG_4384.JPG IMG_4385.JPG
25 minute ride to storage. Some primo wood. Two rows deep waiting for the Fiskars. IMG_4389.JPG
Thanks again for the lead Eric. I owe you big time!

You don’t owe me anything, actually I’m living vicariously through you and your locust/general hoarding adventures :) Happy to see it worked out in the end. What a day for you, huh?! Chomping on Elm for breakfast then a little afternoon delight with another sweet BL score. Good times :salute:

Ya you had a hardy load in the truck there. I have been known to push the limits to far, broke off one of my rubber overload bump stops on my old truck with a load of elm one time, 8ft bed, me and my co worker loaded it above the cab from front to back.

That is one of the easiest BL scores ever. Where are the thorns, the vines, the poison?
    Great size logs too.

I kept thinking the same while cutting. What i went through a week earlier to get the same amount of wood! :loco:  Thinking back i had a BL score that was easier than this one.

I pack the bed so tight i have to put the saws in the cab. Hard time fitting the 500i carefully. The 261 behind the seat on top of my other tools which are kept in there all the time as well as axes and mauls. Rare i have a passenger. Had it been only a few rounds, i wouldve found a way.

Grabbed the rest this afternoon. Quick in and out. One little spar in the corner he said i could cut cut. Thought it mulberry but turned out to be willow (yuck). IMG_4400.JPG Wire sticking out of one log that i thought was a vine. Luckily not near cut. IMG_4398.JPG 2" thick bark. IMG_4401.JPG
Added to the wood from the "how did i miss this thread" made a heaping load. Hit two scores in one day. IMG_4402.JPG IMG_4403.JPG

With a lot of bad experiences on social media for firewood, i rarely browse for free wood any more. Eric PMed me with the lead, luckily it had phone number and not just an email. Was a new listing. The guy ACTUALLY answered when i called and good to go. I kept thinking its too good to be true until i got there.
And like in a prior response i kept thinking what i went through the week before to get a load.
Your folks dont have land to cut wood from Jason?

Nope. Just 2.5-3 acres and it's not big tree land. The back 40 used to be a field when I was a young'n.
Social media has been working good for me. This latest spot was from a Merchandizer add that my bil shared. I find you have to be willing to get after it right away with these avenues of opportunity. Might take a vacation day tomorrow to go get more. All the locust there is dead standing and hollow. Almost not worth it but he needs wood now so I'll get it. I think there's only 2-3 more standing.
