So after forgetting I was still signed up, and not really needing any wood this year, I got a 9am call that an arborist was on his way with some maple. Some is punky, and most is bigger than I can really handle. Wife...not super pleased with me. At least I know what I'll be doing for the next couple of weekends. And I may need to get a bigger chainsaw...
Ha;. That's probably what will happen with my chip drop request. Looks like I'll be getting my two problematic ash trees dropped, and I'll be on tree duty the next couple of weeks. Then chip drop will certainly deliver a load.
Luckily, there were really only 2 or 3 logs that were too big for me to break down. And those were pretty punky, so I just rolled them off into the wooded strip along the side of our yard. Not technically our property, but now it's not my problem either! The weather this summer had better be conducive for outdoor fire pit time, cause I've got lots of wood to burn through.
Just signed up. I am SO excited for this. My wife will also be a little startled.... 20 cubic yards is quite a bit.
Cool. Make sure you specify what species you DON’T want, and that you want logs only (unless you actually do want chips). My mistake was saying no to willow only, when I should have added conifers to the list.
I can smell the mayonnaise from here!! Yesterday it was 57° and we had a fire in the fire pit. I grabbed the "trunk" of the Christmas tree from this year. It was a grand fir. I took the fir trunk and cut it into a couple pieces to fit in the pit. I got a bunch of sap on my hands. It smelled great, but yeah. Sticky. I ended up getting the sap off with just lava soap, but was prepared to break out the mayo.
I signed up a while back. Not a peep. So take a look at the activity in your area on the site and don't hold your breath.
It looks like a drop was delivered 10 minutes away in less than a day. I live in a heavily wooded area. Hopefully it works out.
There's a lot of trees where I live too. The real issue is that the tree services need to be on chip drop in order for it to work. Around here, I think a lot of the tree services are letting the wood, and processing it themselves to sell as firewood.
