Same here, although fire danger im limited to November to march/april/may if lucky. Gotta get it while I can.
My old 93 6.5L turbo diesel. I missed it so much that I bought it back from my friend. It was supposed to replace my 6.0 because I started selling firewood out of town but I quickly obsoleted it when I bought another 93 with a dump box. Apparently the diesel pickup was about to blow a rod so I had to say bye-bye to my first vehicle bought for my first business, scrap metal recycling. First pic: black walnut, sugar maple Second pic: ash, sugar maple, birch, apple, apricot
Got another jag of Shagbark & some Ash to finish off the load Edit: That is Honey Locust not Shagbark, I must of been day dreaming when I typed that.
Its rare to find rotten honey locust. The healthy ones that are cut (city trees) have a bug that burrow in the wood. Come back to your firewood pile after seasoning and you'll see piles of sawdust laying around.
I'm guessing you're talking about a BackRack. I'm a scrap metal recycler as well so my bias is to have cab height-high walls to hold a full bush cord and expanded metal protecting the back window because cargo tends to go through the somewhat big voids in BackRacks. I once picked up 21 panels of expanded metal on 1x1 inch tube. I kept 2 sets of three for pickup bed cages (perfect cab height width and truck box length) and sold the other 5 sets of three to other scrap guys. Not strong enough of course, so I reinforced all the edges with bed frame...spring steel that bends and and retracts back to straight under load. Never had a problem with 2 tonnes in the truck, three feet over the walls. Keep the bed frame in mind or truck walks or other framing projects. I dont know how it is in everyone else's area, but aside from garbage on garbage day, plenty of bulky items get put on the curb throughout the week and there;s no shortage of bed frame. Not easy to drill through though
Some nice firewood there Jason. Bet it felt great to get out and run the saws. If you left BL behind i wouldve How much BL was there? Too bad it was hollow but you never know til you cut into it.
There’s a couple dead or near dead standing. Very similar to this one. I’ll more than likely get as much as I can but there’s 3 others cutting on this property so I need to get the bigger ash out as my parents need wood for this coming winter. If I split it now, should be ok. Looks like it’s been on the ground for a while but it’s solid and heavy.
