Felled and dragged some logs out of the woods yesterday. Cut the logs today. Carried more ash logs out of the woods to an area I can get my truck to. Last week. Today Can't wait to saw into this pile.
Thats an awesome find! No spark is pretty common on the PS-9000. Coils were notorious for going bad. I have a PS-9000 that still runs on the original coil, but I have a backup for when it quits. You’ll need the coil and flywheel for the PS-9010. That’s the updated version of that saw. The original flywheel could be clocked to work with the 9010 coil, but personally haven’t done that myself. I could help get you close, though. I have access to both flywheels here. The updated 9010 coil gives you a higher rev limit, from 11,800 to 12,500. Many say the Bing carb on that saw needs to be updated to the Tillotson from the 9010, but I’ve never had a problem with mine. I’d give the Bing a shot, if it was me. These saws are oil slobbering tugboats. Oils more than almost any other saw I’ve seen, and lots of torque. Not a speed racer, by any means, but still fun to run. I have a few sitting here Parts are still somewhat available, but dwindling rather quickly. Hasn’t been produced since the winter 2017/2018. I’d double check your bar studs, to make sure the holes are not cracked or threads going out. It looks to have the D033 bar mount studs installed. There’s an extra set of bar stud mount holes further rear in the cases, to run D009 mount studs, but it either requires a new bar plate, or drilling out the old one. The clutch cover has room for the extra set of holes already.
Thats a lot! Thanks! Looking forward to cleaning it up and messing with it. I’ve taken a couple passes just on CL and any internet search for parts, or even a whole saw. It is pretty sparse.
Any time! They’re very well built saws, and simple to work on. The guys at The Cutting Edge in NY may have some parts, but I know they’re starting to run low as well. I’m sure they have a top cover for you, though. Even if it’s used. I’ve found a decent supply at SLE Equipment online. They must use a different distributor. Their site won’t show up in a google search for part numbers, but if you search their site most stuff comes up. That’s been my go to if the Cutting Edge boys can’t help me. Coil Makita Genuine Part 024-143-051 IGNITION COIL, DOLMAR - SLE Equipment Flywheel Makita Genuine Part 024-141-210 FLYWHEEL ASSY., DOLMAR PS9010 - SLE Equipment Carb, although I’d try the Bing out first Makita Genuine Part 024-150-030 CARBURETOR, DOLMAR, DCS9010 - SLE Equipment
Test and tune on a 96 272xp with a meteor I just rebuilt feels strong Still breaking it in. This is how I got nearly all my saws
Sharpened and tuned up a 028 wood boss Left and a 028 super right I gave my niece and her husband A couple years ago. They cut a lot of firewood.
That ash is scetchy to cut here 7 year's ago I cut a couple hundred dead one's For a neighbor Now they shatter like glass towards the top they are so dry and rotten.
Here's a fine running saw If the coils didn't go bad They were notorious for bad coils. early to mid 90s Alpina 600 professional on top 540i on the bottom. Excellent running saws They were the first clamshell design I'd ever seen I've got a few I need coils for. I know a guy that has several nos But he won't sell them. I really liked the 700 and 800 professionals But they are extremely rare now The logger's junked them when the coils died.
I find myself reaching for the lightest saw in my arsenal recently, and it’s not a bad thing. Stihl green chain on this lo pro hero does wonders. Anyone want a hunk of pine repurposed into a bird feeder?!
I have another 3 dozenish ash trees and most of them are still in decent shape. I am in a rush to get them all down while still safe to do so. I would hate to see them go to waste.
Was finally able to find time to really run the 462 . Sweet saw ! Was surprised that when noodling the rounds ,the cover never clogged . A big thanks to Huskihl . Kevin , you build a super nice saw ! Also got to use the log tongs Bud (Fifelaker ) made for me . Great back savers .
