Very nice indeed! Maybe I’ll cruise on over to the PA site and see what’s there. My parents wood stash is getting low
Because of the shut down of offices, the USFS waived their firewood permit requirement for last year. I don't know if they're doing it again this year as it will be a while before roads are open anyway. But we all know just how "free" it is!
How nice of them to allow us to cut our own firewood Would be a nice option if I had nowhere to cut, but everywhere I drive there is dead, dying, and down stuff and nobody ever touches it. Can’t believe it would be much different if there was public ground that you could cut on near me.
Nice to see them getting out of the way for a change and letting people cut wood that would have otherwise gone to waste.
We can get free fuelwood permits down here as well. Issue is you're supposed to stay within 50' of a road or trail & no gas powered haulers in the woods. Pretty inefficient if you want to make any kind of time. Cut & hand load is pretty slow going.
Similar laws in certain places in CT. A buddy of mine goes out every fall skidding logs with his oxen team to get around it, but that becomes a huge affair in itself.
Over here in lower michigan, about 30 minutes east of grand rapids theres a bunch of DNR owned land that had a ton trees fall from some straight line winds last spring. Called the local DNR office to inquire and was told they only issue firewood permits for northern lower michigan, nothing near me.
