Got the gravel into the carport and ready for wood. Next was moving the pallet racks into place. Once I use these up I will just be stacking right onto pallets in the shed so I can take advantage of all the room. I could probably double what's in the racks if it's stacked tightand to the top. Plan for the left side I will stack the splits I have piled and ready to go. In the pic with the wood in the shed there is 6 cord that's ready to go, mostly 3 yr pin oak, then pine, maple, locust, cherry and mulberry. Outside is two more racks of locust and a rack of oak and a rack of pine that dumped while moving. Right now I have 12 cord stacked, and I'm guessing another 5-6 piled up and 2-3 in log length. Still got a long ways to go until I'm done with all this. Almost forgot there's another 3+ cord of pine in the old chicken coop. Think I'm ready for winter?
Looks good, ought to look gooder when you get her stuff....Sounds like you got some prime wood too...
Yes I'm mostly excited about not having to fight tarps and not having the pallets freeze to the ground. And as a bonus this will help clean up the look of my stacks
Exactly! I was so tired of keeping stacks covered and worrying about rain/snow run off. It was almost depressing to come home from work on a rainy day to find that the wind somehow blew a tarp off and the wood was soaked.
Covered wood has many benefits & you will really enjoy them too. Nice way you set it up Looks like there's room to stack higher, Stacked to the roof reduces any "wing effect" in the wind.
I agree, once these racks are empty I'll be stacking like you do in your shed. Right on pallets and all then way to the top. I can probably double the amount of slits that way. Will be taller and not have any voids in between the racks.
Will you be hanging any tarps from the sides so you won't have drifting snow blow in and cover your firewood?
