Yes. Cherry just does not like to grow straight.

Good score! That’s a big one for sure. It must burn differently for some cause I dont consider it very good. I love it in a camp fire but that’s about it.

Got most of it processed today. 5 more cuts to finish the trunk tomorrow. Would have stayed and made them but I had to run to get the kiddos from school.

And some pics of what’s left after the second load out, and what I have left on the truck to cut.

I was pretty surprised too! So tall, I figured the whipping action of the fall would have broken more than it did.

I can fix that, I have tons... I’ll do a wood swap with you if your interested. We could meet 1/2 way... or if you come to the beach you pass me within a few miles. Im 20min’s past the bay bridge off of 404. I literally have several cords of cherry... we dont get any elm, locust, hard maples and even hickory’s are rare.

Tons of cherry, oaks, and beech trees here.

1/2 way for either would be Arbutus area of Baltimore... Im serious :)

Got an additional three loads out of the big ole cherry this morning. Ground got a little crispy overnight but by the time I pulled out with the third truckload at 11, it was pure slush. Not muddy yet. Don’t mind it being slushy, but I don’t want to leave big mud ruts that’ll be there when the snow is all gone! Forgot to get a pic of the first load but got the second and third. 5B05B741-EBFE-4948-B1E0-3AFAE64A7F9C.jpeg BD1D3E92-CCCE-4E92-BFAD-BDFC0EE7197C.jpeg
What’s left is behind the truck in the pic above and four big rounds of the base of the trunk. Should make one more truckload! B399F3B0-062A-47C4-B335-15656639A899.jpeg
Back to work tonight, which is fine. Well let things continue to thaw:yes:

After today, I’ve gotten five truckloads of the cherry out. What’s left should make it 6, which is 2 cords, but I cut smaller stuff than you do, so your one and a half cord guess was pretty darn close!

Dang! What an awesome score. Hope to see pics when ya split it. Cherry is one of my favorites in lumber form.

I think it’s the majority of what I cut this year, so there’ll be lots of pics coming once splitting commences!

So far, the two trunks are separate all the way down with only 3 more cuts to make. Notice the dark line on the end of the log. Old leaves wet slimy stuff but no wood holding the two sides together. The rounds are coming off as one piece but I can pull them apart or give them a light smack with the mall and they fall apart. Crazy how much they’d grown together to appear as one! Next time I’m out there I’ll try and remember to get a Square on shot of the end of the log for a better look. 5AE873A4-097E-4528-A6C2-652BCF816DEE.jpeg

I’m assuming you backed your truck into that position AFTER it fell?

Nice score there. You should get plenty of firewood and some smoking wood to share with neighbours and family and friends.
