Just my personal opinion, I’ve seen it get ugly on other sites and would hate to see it here. Kinda opens the door for the need of heavy moderation to see who is crossing lines of the code of conduct or whatever it was we agreed to when we signed up.
Folks- there’s no rule about discussing IN A PM anything you should so desire. Any member can start a convo and invite as many folks as they want. As for the open forums, there are forum rules- whether a member has read them or not- and moderators & Admins maintain those rules to best abilities AND availability. We are volunteering our time, so sometimes it takes a minute to clean up a thread, or perhaps even lock/delete. We very much appreciate members and their efforts to self moderate. That’s the way of FHC all these years. We only do that for the “Reviews” section, Jason. If moderating were a paid job, maybe more approved style posting would become a thing... but I already have a job and FHC will most definitely remain the way it is- all voluntary, all the time. Now- if some of you fine wood hoarding & wood burning members see a post or 3 of yours vanish, feel free to reread the rules. As has been said by many members in this thread and others, bring your knowledge and experience about heating with wood, smoking some ribs, playing with tractors, running the heck outa chainsaws and what have you... if’n ya’s wanna talk about sensitive stuff that treads or stomps on the rules set out by Scotty Overkill - do it in a PM convo. Pretty much K.I.S.S.
We've already had people banned, and some just flat quit on their own over all this stuff, which has certainly increased in the last year...and will continue to increase IMO.
Yep lol, but wasn't that about an Elm tree or three. Sorry, but I could not pass up that cheap shot Jason. Don't worry brother I've already reported myself.
Agreed. Hate seeing it and I don’t have any answers, just suggestions. I’ve let myself slip a time or two and regret it.
Its all good, what's good for one is good for all. I have no problem with anything posted unless it some ridiculous conspiracy theroies or flat out lies.
Things are definitely going to change for me next heating season: instead of oak and pine, I’ll be burning maple, pine, and some kind of mystery wood. Judging from where it is in the stacks it’s vintage 2015 but the label fell off. I’ve learned to attach them better. Whatever it is, after 6 years in the pole barn it should be plenty dry.
Back to the topic at hand. Do you members who sell wood plan to raise your prices this coming season if gas, diesel, oil, etc go up?
I'll have to. I burn about 2K in fuel between skidding, hauling & processing. Fuel costs are already 25% higher than this time last year.
I dont sell firewood. I do look on CL and FB adds. Lately I've seen firewood for sale by the cord for less than it was earlier in the season.
Fabulous idea And best way to kill a conversation is to not respond! BTW, what would be the protocol for asbestos underwear abatement? May complicate things with the wife once the kiddos are in bed
Sounds like a great opportunity for someone who needs some firewood. I guess I’d check into it before committing. There’s a guy I’ve watched on YouTube who processes and sells a lot of his own firewood, but will also purchase firewood from people selling it for far cheaper and sell it for a premium after bundling it, selling it in smaller quantities, and driving it to a market that brings a higher premium. Seems to work well for him. I guess it depends on what wood markets around you are.
I was thinking the same thing jason I hate to see anyone leave the forum or be given the boot. We all have too much in common to let a good thing like the forum go bad because of the little some may disagree on. As I mentioned in a previous post, I’m sure I’ve “pushed the envelope” myself
repeats get the same price from the first time I sold to them, and if I can get my same average I did this past season, I’ll be content. If there’s a rise in the cost of a cord, I just can’t see it being that much of one. I guess we’ll see
