Vacation at the Cabin

Many know I have been on vacation this week. Here is a little back story to the Cabin.

My Father in Law built this place in 1990.. He poured his heart and soul into this place. He came here every weekend. After work Friday (owned his own business, that my BIL now owns and runs) until Sunday evening.

He passed away 2 weeks before I met my wife. I wish I got the chance to meet him. He was a great man that cared for his family and would do anything for them. Me and him have so much in common. I guess that's why my wife seen so much of him, in me.

Anyways. Here is a few photos from my weekend. Gonna start with pics of the build and and then progress through the weekend.

Here is where the build starts.. A man and his vision. He knew what it was gonna look like before he even started. Again, he is a man I never met, but I feel I know him very well.



A man and his saw.. My BIL still has the 028 and the same bar on it (still in great shape).



They dropped the "Kit" at the road. So my FIL and MIL put each piece on the truck and took them back to the build site.

And this is the exterior 24 years later.

 

Yes... Yes he was. Also a man of family. One who was taken to soon. My wife was 19 when he passed. I met her 2 weeks after.

I don't like to question why things happen, and I know everything happens for a reason. But it is sometimes hard to comprehend.

 

More pics to come tomorrow. We got home a little bit ago and I am beat. I promised pics on Thursday night. So I had to start something. I figured a back story would be best. I have posted pics on another forum. But never any build pics.

I have a lot of inside pics, as well as all the places we went. Places like.. Canoeing, Hiking, Seneca Point, Fire tower, Double Diamond Deer ranch, and most importantly, more Chainsaw pics .

There is so many items that are hung up or placed on the rafters, that I still find new and interesting stuff, every time I go there.

If you look close, there is 2 bottles of Bird Dog. Made me think of Birdgogtg.

And finally a "Double Bubble" or Whiskey and water shot..

 

The fireplace has a very cool starting mechanism. My Father in Law obviously wanted to have a fire fast.. Very fast..

It's called the "Blue Flame Log Lighter". It's a gas line that goes under the grate. Set your wold on, turn the valve to open, light the gas with a lighter, wait a few minutes until the wood is going good, then shut valve off..

Add some wood (I wasn't gonna start a fire. The 1st night I almost did. It was about 60° inside) then light...




The Mantel has 3 burnt in drawings. My Mother in law did all three of them (She is also no longer with us/ RIP Patty). There is a Bear, Deer, and Ducks..

Everywhere you go, there is small details that were hand made, hand carved, or burned/etched into the wood.

I still have a million photos from the things we did. But we are leaving for Pittsburgh in a bit and the grass ain't gonna cut itself..
