Heck no! Warmer means more people.

I don't react well with that. (Go figure, right?) This new place will be more private but about as isolated as I can get with 99 on board.

One of those "I can pee off the deck if I want" places!

I'll be making my 2nd offer in a week or so. It's a sellers market now, so really can't wait too long.

I have a neighbor like yours now....he showed his true colors last Nov.

Actually been thinking about this the last couple days. Seems like it has been a colder than average winter for most of the country with greater than average snowfall so far. This has me keeping a lot of people out of the woods either because they are unable to get back there due to snow or the cold is just too intense. I paid 2.69/ gallon today For gas and agree that it’ll probably only go up. Then there’s the thread about natural gas prices...all of this seems to be pointing to what you’re forecasting for next burning season. I’ll admit the last couple weeks has been more challenging for me to be getting after the firewood, but I’m gonna keep pressing on because I agree That there is going to be an increased demand for it! Just today, I plowed about a 30 foot wide area along the edge of the woods where I have been cutting. I’ll be back there thursday, whittling away:thumbs:

"Things" aren't going to change at all for us. Will be burning wood to prevent visits from the oil man. It really will remain that simple.

I'm thinking along the same lines, Due to two not so great winters in a row for skidding logs I ordered a 20 cord load of Oak & had a 5 cord grapple load of mixed hardwood dropped today. I'll keep hauling & stacking as well. I figure if I have 30-40 cord on hand I can always sell enough to pay for my own supply. I don't see fuel prices going anywhere but up & that includes firewood.

nice! Have you ordered logs before! Watched some videos on people who do this as well as gathering firewood through scavenging or cutting in the woods. Some argue that the amount of time saved by not having to gather the wood is huge. Often wondered if selling wood, is it still more profitable to gather all your own firewood which is free but more time consuming or is there a point where having bulk logs delivered becomes more profitable? Obviously still a lot of labor, but gathering wood is a very time consuming task. Curious what you think?:handshake:

I don't see fuel prices coming down for awhile. Cold winter, refineries shut down because of cold, new oil and gas leases cancelled, coal plants shutting down, people really wanting to travel this summer....

I need to see if I can get a few cords of oak slab wood next week. I'd prefer to have 5 sitting on my property this summer knowing I have it on top of my planned cut and split 4 cords. I'll have to top off the propane tank this spring and maybe upsize while I'm at it. Propane is for cooking and backup house heat. If I changed over the water heater I'd be money ahead too.

I've had a few people ask if I sold wood when I've had a truck load. I had one guy notice the bark and chainsaw in my empty truck and ask. Everything I have access to is green and not fit to burn yet.

I haven't been able to find a local hauler to sell slash logs for firewood at a reasonable price. Last guy I talked too wanted $180 to $200 a cord delivered in log form. At that price I can get cut and split delivered from someone else. It was no savings to me at all.

It was alot easier where I grew up. My best friend growing up was from a logging family. Saw mill was 2 miles from my farm. A load could be had at the end of the day to cover fuel. Or I'd go up to the sawmill and get wood from the buttend and slash pile. I just had to go visit my buddies grandpa before I loaded up...which I would do any way.

Nope, first time. I'm not sure it would turn a profit to order & sell, but it might at least pay for the load. I'm pretty well set up to supply my own, but last year the ground never froze good, & this year once it did the snow got deep enough to shut us down. I've got plenty of supply, but time & weather are the limiting factors. Short days make for no skidding during the week & weekends go by fast. My shop's been really busy all year, so buying was a good option I think.

Time sure does fly by doesn’t it? Glad business has been good for you. I’m a bit south of you and haven’t gotten quite the snowfall you have. Up until yesterday, hoarding hasn’t been too limited. We’ll see now with the most recent snowfall. Seems hit or miss for a lot of the members this year. Good luck to you:yes:

Wow! At that price, hard to justify getting the logs. Had no idea it was that pricey.

Already was thinking I would try to hand split more this year than last. If fuel prices keep trending up, it’ll just be easier to justify!

For all the work involved, I would stop selling and build up stock for next year. I don’t see how a person makes worthwhile money for the labor to create a cord, and handle it two to three times by the time it is delivered.

It’s easy... you just have to have a YouTube channel.
But seriously you’re right. I don’t think I could ever do wood for money. I can barely keep up for myself. If I had $100,000 in equipment maybe but that’s a lot of wood to pay that back. So until I win the lottery I’m gonna keep plugging away with my $200 second hand homemade splitter. :tears:

I am lucky, I have all of the wood I can cut right here on the farm. It's not the best of wood, but all I can cut, and I am trying to clean up the farm anyway. The Saws I buy are the cost of my gym membership, as I do it for the exercise as a side benefit. But I am not selling wood, at least not on purpose if it comes to it.

I also burn propane, but try to burn as little as possible. However, when it come to fuel cost, it's the gasoline I put in my trucks and tractors, etc. that bothers me. Hard to cut down much there. Limit some unnecessary trips, I guess, is about it. Anything more and I would have to get on a political rant.

Not only will fuel go up, but the logging trucks that drop a lot of members off poles will likely also be charging more per cord. So wont the firewood guys selling split wood. The tree companies may also start charging for previously free drop offs to offset rising fuel costs, or decide to keep the wood and turn It into firewood themselves. It’s a vicious cycle. Makes me glad I process my own wood......for freeeeee!!!!!!

X2....the trickle down:hair: I was saying this to my wife about the value of silver possibly going up significantly. Sure it’s great if your holding onto some silver, but silver is used in a lot of manufacturing of daily goods. Even LED lightbulbs contain silver. The cost just gets passed along.

A rise in fuel prices means a rise in the cost of any product that requires fuel for manufacturing, products shipped by trucks using fuel, etc. Almost all the food, healthcare products, medication, tires, vehicles, etc are going up..up..up. Only thing that won’t go up is your pay, unless your a minimum wage worker that is. Its going to be really awful. At least that dirty pipe line was shut down though. Now we can go back to relying on other countries and pay whatever price they demand.
