Specifically 38, 44 mag, and 9mm. They need to be powder through expanding die type(now there all like that but not sure if old ones were not?). Getting a turret press and I dont have all Lee dies so I can't use the powder measure on the press without the lee dies. So now I need to swap out my dies for Lee. Or if anyone wants to trade said calibers for a lee set. I have RCBS 44 mag dies there not carbide but I did buy a carbide sizer I would throw in. I have basically a brand new set of Horne day titanium whatever 9mm maybe less than 200 rounds on them and an old used of lyman 38/357 carbide dies I would trade for Lee set.
I have the same! I just tumbled a batch of 100 or so 40's last night...I dont even have or load 40!! I do load 9s but those are plenty plentiful. Keep um for trade fodder which is why I keep 40s.
Funny you mention Lee Clem. My son and I went to 5 gun shops in NH last w/e and all they carried was RCBS, they no likey Lee. I had conversations with 2 reloading guys at 2 of the shops and their big reason for not liking Lee was the auto indexing, they say it fails too much. And of course a bunch of other minor things they didn't like. So needless to say I didn't get anything towards reloading but a lyman tumbler and some media.
Um Lee DIES have nothing g to do with the auto index of the turret or progressive 1000 presses? Lee dies in my opinion are the best value for the money. If I had the cash I would just get a dollop. 550b or a square deal press for every caliber I load. The little plastic thing wears out and need to be lubed and cleaned and then replaced every so often. But if u read posts there are folks with thousands of rounds on the same lee presses. If I only loaded on caliber I would buy the lee pro 1000 in that caliber. Its a progressive press that can be had o. Ebay for like $150 you can load about 250 rounds an hour. With it. Now how long will it take you to pay for that press? Not long.
There just some Lee haters out there. You do sometimes have to tinker with it but for the price you can't beat it and they are worth the money. I have RCBS,lyman, Lee and Horneday dies. I like the lee dies myself and for the money you can't beat them. For example a 3 die set of 38s is $30 shipped off ebay.
I'm far from arguing with you, the dies have nothing to do with the indexing. When I was chatting with those fellas, that was their explanation on why the shops didn't carry anything Lee. I think it was kind of lame but I'm sure they have their reasons. All but one carried Dillon and RCBS.
It may have to do with clientel. Until recently everyone was a diehard reloader it seemed and got the good stuff. There were far less casual reloaders I guess and lee is more entry level stuff. I understand you werent arguing with me but thats idiotic. Lee makes some good stuff that everyone uses and others don t make. Lee dippers are one there perfect for what they are. Plenty of other stuff including hand prime and dies are perfect as well
I'm sure I'll agree with you when I press my first load this winter. I got lucky on my trip to NH and found some .380 in stock, bought up a bunch. So those shells will be there after the factory stuff gets used up. 9mm up there was the same as the Mass prices so I didn't budge.
Shot about 100+ of my reloads of 380 so far. I found a load that I liked. Pretty accurate but the gun is not a range gun or a 40ft gun and its really hard to shoot decent. But when its up close say 15-20ft its pretty accurate.
I've had better luck with the Lee dies over rcbs loading 223. I loaded over 1k new brass and broke 2 expanders after the case seized in the die. Bought a Lee set and finished up the last 650 pieces with no problems.
I have thousands and thousands of rounds on my lee classic turret. Still using the original plastic index piece. You can buy spares for pennies or email lee a pic of the broke one and they overnight you a new one free. I don't get the lee haters. Guess it's like chevy vs ford Back on topic...sorry, I don't have any to part with.
My go to load is bha match brass..60 gr vmax remmy 7.5 match primers 23.5 gr varget...with u guessed it lee .223 dies..its a 1 holer...people think that because lee us "cheap" its no good...im here to tell u..lee makes som damm fine products...american made..american labor...reloading is not the individual parts..but a sum of them all..u get outta it wat you put init...imo..sorry fer the rant...
