Colder here. What's your temp? What ya burnin?

Well, thanks for rubbing that in Al. 10F here & snowing, no big deal, but the north wind makes it feel very unpleasant. Just loaded with Oak & Elm for the night.

 

It's 9.5 tonight headed down to 4, we have some beech coals burning down in the Liberty, I'll shut the fan off on the Liberty and turn the pellet stove on tonight.

 

It's coming NortheastAl , we're in for 8 to 12 of the wet heavy snow from what they've been saying, for us it starts tomorrow after supper.

 

8:50 CST currently -8f heading for a low of around -13. Will be heading out at 3:30am for McCook, Ne. for a vendor meet over a down phone line. Find it hard to beleive they need to send me 4.5 hours one way just for that. Tuesday morning could be -20 so not looking forward to that.

-19 right now, they are calling for -28 but I'm guessing 30 some below.
Topped the OWB with a big knoted slab of oak and some smaller splits and got the slow 2amp charger on the truck battery for the night, guessing it's going to complain a bit about starting at 430am... I may also

 

Same here. -11. Except it’s supposed to actually warm up a little throughout the night here. One of the guys that is on my crew at work lives in Chadron. He drives all the way to Denver to pull shifts on the fire department. He loves living up there. Is Chadron anywhere near you?

 

Sitting at -23 right now. I don't think it's done dropping yet.

 

Wow that is quite the commute! Chadron is probably 3 1/2 hours west and north of me. One of the better areas of the state as far as terrain and scenery in my opinion

 

His place up there is gorgeous. The cost of living there is SOOO much less than Denver. The housing market in the Denver area is ridiculously inflated. That’s why he makes the drive.

PS - I’m burning some nice dry American Elm. House is at 75. Wife is in short shorts and a tank top

 

Only 1 or 2 loads left from the first row. Had the wood stove going for a solid week straight now. Normally, Monday through Thursday, I just let the propane run. Then when I'm done for the week, I start up a fire . But with these temps we've been having, I keep it going all the time. Reloading is the last thing I do before leaving for work and the first thing when I get home.
That's about as full as I can get her.

Was -25* tonight when I got up and 72* in, spruce doing its thing. When I got to work it was -29*, little stove at work has some uglies and small wood.

 

-33 so far. A little breeze gives the real feel a reading of -52. Who knows how much more it'll drop around sunrise?

I think I saw Rope laughing as he drove by this morning!

 

Yeah, ya want to keep that fire going in these temps!

Just wondering.....ever think of making your splits a little larger?

 

-28*F according to my phone!!! I don’t know if I have ever seen it this cold before, probably has been, just wasn’t as interested in heat and temperatures.
Anyway my first time burning a stove full of just oak was unimpressive. I filled it full at around 9:30 got it rolling good for awhile then squeezed it down and went to bed about 11:00. 6:15 when I got up and the stove had cooled down enough that the fan had shut off and not near the coal bed left that I usually have. The splits and pieces of oak I have are smaller than what my elm usually is, I’m sure that was a factor. Enough people here love their oak, so I’m pretty sure it’s great firewood, it just looks like there will be a bit of a learning curve for me with it, and I don’t have very much to work with. I’m sure bigger pieces would be better.

 

Yeah, I have been leaving them larger since someone else brought that up. My fire box isn't very big, now that I have seen some other pictures posted on here. I also have a plan to move the wood burner to the first floor. Then probably get a different wood stove as well. Someone else mentioned the Drolett 2000 and 3000. Those look pretty nice and in my price range.

Oh, and its -19 at my house this morning. Winds are calm finally.

 

Just hit -45, coldest I've ever seen in my life if this thermometer is accurate. Local wx guy says we're pushing -40 so it's probably close enough.

I have to burn the stove pretty hot and load every 4 hours to keep the cabin in the mid 70's.

 

Still experiencing a heat wave compared to many of you. 19F have ash going now. 8 to 12 inches of snow expected.
