Watching the weather this weekend and see most of the country is still in grips of old man winter. I can’t help but wish springtime would come. I love burning and all the warmth it provides , but I’m ready for spring turkey hunting and fishing. I got to get out and get some more firewood cut and stacked. To add to my stacks. How are my friends feeling?

This is the most winter we have had in my area for a good number of years. I don’t think the temperature has gotten above zero for two or three days, it’s-7*f right now at one o’clock and supposed to get down to around -20 tonight. And has snowed off and on all week, probably got 8” on the ground. Everybody is saying how cold they are. I haven’t done to bad with that, I dress warm enough for the conditions.
I am kind of enjoying it really.

My yard is already a swamp and another 3” in this week’s forecast. I need it to dry up. Stir crazy for sure and ready to fire up the chainsaws, woodsplitter and Ford2000.
I have the beginnings of a Grand Canyon in my driveway, 30” red oak logs to cut and piles of rounds to split. It’s been too wet for months to haul in more wood. The good news is the tree frogs have been singing for a week, so I know spring is around the corner for me.
Very grateful I don’t have to wait until May.

I cant complain about the temps. My area has been mild compared to many others and I actually like winter. I enjoy the quietness, stillness and solitude winter brings while working outside. It's a welcome change of pace in today's world. With that being said Im usually done with winter by this time every year. Fall, hunting season and the holidays are long behind us. February seems dreary to me, even though the days are getting longer. I love burning the woodstove and probably have at least 2.5 more months to go. But Im looking looking forward to fishing, gardening, outside projects, watching my sons playing spring sports, warm breezes, the smell of spring and the singing of birds. Im not looking to the mud season though. I hate mud season!!

It's 5 degrees here right now, low to zero tonight, high of 3 degrees tomorrow, and and minus 8 degrees on Tuesday. Snow on the ground and more coming. I am burning 100% Black Locust right now, and keeping the stove wide open a lot of the time. I don't much like it, because I have to feed twice as much hay to the cattle and that cost me nearly 200 dollars a day in round bales.

And on top of that, my Black Lab has nine pups, with their eyes still not open yet. I have 2 infrared heat lamps over the top of them and fixing to add a third today. Not complaining just saying, yes, I am ready for 50 degree days again. But I have a lot to be thankful for, anyway. :)

I had a couple of face cords of Black Locust, on the porch I was hoping to keep till next year, and let it season a few more months, but I have given up on that, It's the best wood I have right now, so I am burning it. I need the BTU's.

Winter overall hasn't been bad for me but this last month of low teens and under has done it for me. My stacks a month ago were so tall and proud looking like the Wehrmacht before invading the Soviet Union and now look similar in results. Going to have to CSS alot more than I thought I would when this weather breaks. Really looking forward to May and June though and pounding some Walleye and Silvers on Lake Erie.

I’ve just about had my fill but I’m still enjoying the season for now. With every year passing by faster than the last, somehow I’ve learned to have a little more patience when it comes to the change of seasons. I try to enjoy each season as it’s here and make the most of it. I think that’s the key for me at least. It’s easy to fall into the mindset of always wishing for the next thing. Wishing it were spring, and when it is you wish it was summer so you could be at the beach. Summer comes, it’s unbearably hot and you wish for fall. Fall comes, you’re scraping the frost off your windshield in the morning and missing warmer days. Winter arrives and the cycle continues. Before you know it another decade is gone.

Well that painted a pretty graphic picture in my mind LOL. I think at this point we’re just passing the Stalingrad point on the Eastern Front in the war against winter. The tide is turning :)

Yep, true enough. We should live in the now, and enjoy the now. However, I do wish it was 50 degrees now. :)

I know how that is, I am ready for spring we are going through about 20 round bales a month.

Thankfully we have a room in the house set up for our puppys, and our next litter won't be for about 2 months.

We have two black labs , they are awesome dogs. Actual step brothers a year and half apart.
A lot of energy and so fun.
Best dogs ever , a little bit of a handful at times but so worth it.
    Have fun with them !

I like winter, but this is about the time where I start wanting winter to be winding down. Like was said before, I hate mud season. But right now with the very cold temps and the snow on the ground now make it difficult to do anything firewood related.

I like to cut and split wood in winter, since I always cut more than I burn in a day, it's gratifying. Since I can't cut right now, I can't get that satisfaction.

There will hopefully be time when the ground is still frozen, but there's minimal to no snow on the ground, this late Winter/ spring.

I hate bug season too, you won't catch me in the woods when there's mosquitoes.
