Recently I have been watching Spike 60 saw college videos on YouTube. “Man that guy is a wealth of information on huskies and jonsereds”!!! I’ve heard him say “Wipe em down with pledge” a couple times now. The first time it seemed like a passing comical remark, the second time I figured he was probably serious. Those are some really pretty saws he has. So does anyone else do this to ones that are in really nice condition for their age? And what about faded plastics, any one have a good way of getting them looking better again? Wet sanding and polishing? I have some auto body and auto detailing experience, so I think I can probably get some of them to clean up a little bit if I put the time in.
I used pledge on pumpkins and gourds when I entered them in the fair. I used liquid car wax on most of my saws after a good cleaning. I think it helps to keep some of the crud from sticking to them .Haven't had much luck cleaning up faded plastics on older saws.
Believe it or not I do. Not often but the answer is yes for me. Maybe it is my OCD ( as she calls it ) but my saws have cut a lot of wood and some have been around a while and still look great. I have had more than one person ask " Hey did you just get that saw " ; when I reply no they are shocked. My maintenance program on all my equipment is probably more than what it has to be. When I am done cutting for the day before the saws get put away they always get the air hose cleaning , doesn't take that long. Pledge also works great on plastic snow shovels and inside the snowblower chute to keep snow from sticking.
Not yet, but I’ll try it. I got a rusty muffler on an 084 I want to clean up and repaint. Any tips on rust removal?
Electrolysis works great on thin metal parts like that. Done with a battery charger and some Arm and Hammer laundry booster , very easy to do. Youtube has a bunch of videos on how to do it.
Never thought about it but Maxima Racing Oils makes a great product called SC1 that is well known in the motorcycle world. Think of it as garage pledge. I use it on my ATV's and on the plastics, rubbers and vinyls on the interior of my vehicles. Great product to clean, polish, hide scratches and basically make old plastics look new. Added bonus is it smells like cherry's...but I guess plege smells like lemons It works great on the ATV's as it makes old plastics look new and it reduces future clean up time, as any dust and mud just pretty much rinse off with a hose. I never thought about using it on a saw but making it look good and easing future clean ups can't hurt. Having a saw smell like cherry's would be an added bonus
I bought my first brand new saw from him! I absolutely do NOT do much more than a dry rag wipe down when it's sharpening time. It's a saw to cut firewood not go on the mantle.
Holy chit, I’d have never guess you guys would be posting about SC1! I use quite a lot of it on my motorcycles. I have sprayed it on a saw or two but usually mine just get compressed air and a wipe off with a clean rag. SC1 helps keep stuff from sticking to plastic. It works great. At least once a season I drench my tonneau cover with it. So two thumbs up to anyone wanting to try a new product. Try it, betcha like it.
I’ve worked with bicycles for a long time, and almost all we use for polishing the bikes up after service is Pledge. We’ve used for the last 15 years. Works very well. I haven’t tried the Maxima SC1, but I’ll probably look it up now. Lol Another good one is Amsoil Mudslinger. Keeps things nice and slick, and gives it a good shine.
I use lemon pledge on my saws. Of course only when Im going to be cutting lemon trees. Rest of time I just wipe down with a rag.
I've got a car dash/ interior polish that shells like cherry and works the same. I wouldn't doubt it's the same product. I think it's Mother's brand.
Dang, I thought if I told people I waxed my saws I'd be roasted . I am always blowing them out with compressed air, so much that I usually have a compressor with me.
