Found some bacon for 2.49 lb and tried it out on Sunday. Turned out to be really good stuff!

While I was out yesterday morning, I picked up 5 more lbs and am thinking that maybe I should go back for more.

Is it possible to have too much bacon??? :rofl:

From a shopping trip back in March.

I’m sorry honey, they didn’t have your free range, non GMO, organic, pesticide free, low fat chicken breast. But I found something that is better and we are now all stocked up!!!

I say stock up. Much like farwood, when stored right, bacon will last a long time. Maybe do a bit more than topcover though. To be safe, better send me a couple lbs to test.

I pick no for an answer on this one.
Worst case you can always freeze it.
There is ( was ) a market near here that always had great deals on bacon but the expiration date was not all that far from going to the past due date. I would buy it and freeze , never had any problem with doing so.

I only buy thick cut slab bacon from the meat counter now. Costs more, but you can buy just what you need, and it is ten times better than packaged bacon. Except of course when I make my own a couple of times a year.

    Hey BHags,
Can't argue with you on either on of those things.
The bacon from the butcher is so much better that the pre-packaged and like you say not all that much more. We recently had some black pepper bacon from the butcher = delicious.

I also do homemade myself but it has been a long time ! For what it costs for pork belly around here to start with it really isn't a cost savings ; however it is still the best.

We do buy the pre-packaged when it is on sale though , still good for a BLT sandwich.

Thats why it was a great deal. They call it a 'managers special' at our local Hometown Market.

    We always freeze bacon.

Looks like there might be a couple burgers somewhere in there.
I am a huge fan of a good burger and bacon always makes it better.
Only 6:20 am and I could without a doubt enjoy one right now.

Never found any "store" bacon to compare to what our smoke shop put out. We raise and butcher our own pigs and for the last 35 years have taken the bacon and hams to a place about 100 miles away in PA called Peter Brothers Meats. They did an absolute amazing job smoking the meat but closed down for good this past spring after 80 years of being in business. Not sure if it was Covid related or not but we will miss them tremendously! We tried a new place not far from there and they do a decent job but not like what we are used to.

I eat bacon every single day. Might only be a slice or two to grease the pan, but it's part of a ketogenic diet. I shop at Restaurant Depot and pick up a case or two (roughly 15-20 lb) three or four times a year. They sell a brand from PA, think it's Leidy's (?) that's applewood smoked and very tasty.

Edit: Might also be John F. Martin & Sons from Lancaster County PA. Either way it's good stuff. Commercial, yes, but the local butcher shops charge an arm and a leg for bacon that's actually not as good.

Martin makes good bacon. When we are out of the homemade stuff we go to our local Karns for there double smoked thick sliced bacon. It's now $5/lb but we get the bacon ends for $2.19/lb.
Bacon is the only real food group. Everything else is filler.
Me too on the daily bacon intake.
    Where is that bacon smiley?!
