Big Red Oak is indeed awesome stuff. This one I cut at my SIL's. It was a storm damaged tree that split and was hung up about 12' in the air. As I was bucking it, the splits were falling apart and away like an oven stuffer roaster. My eyes lit up like a kid at Christmas.

I haven't cut any red oak in a couple years now. I'm always looking, but it hasn't happened as there's none on my land and very few on my buddy's. I love how easily it splits.

Here was the 30” DBH red oak that crashed into my processing area this past August during a tropical storm. It was easily the largest tree (volume wise) I ever processed, from the trunk right down to the limb wood. The tree was a double and I still want to go after the other half this spring.

    Awesome!

Ive been through a couple monster reds. The latest was no exception. I have yet to split it all and get a cordage total.

    That’s a 42” bar.

Show offs and your big awesome red oaks, I am jealous. I could use some of those long burns and good BTU’s when it -20* and colder.

They're very common around here Rope. The ones below I pictured were sitting on the side of the road about 1.25 miles from my house for months before I finally decided to go grab them.

The worst part is some guys (cough.. cough.. Brad and Eric) refuse to give Red Oak the loving it deserves, and give it the cold silent treatment instead!!! Despite Red Oak being declared the firewood champion on this very forum!!!
