Oh boy, I'm shocked and disappointed in us, I finally got into the stove today for a deep clean ( I have to wait when he's home and it's not too cold that the electric space heaters can handle this room for me, as I cannot run the stiff brush through the exchange tubes, that requires more muscle than I have now), the pipe was pretty bad. The worst I've seen since we got a pellet stove in 2014. We must have crossed lines on LBT vs. me going bottom up with soot eater wands or something like that and instead nothing happened. There was a ton in there all the way from bottom a few inches off the floor all the way to the top and we have a tall stack.

Anyway we've had a terrible vibration in the stack since installing this new one, I took it apart more than usual after seeing how much soot was in there and can't get it back together. They left to go get food for the game tomorrow, hopefully it will go back together better this time and be quieter.

PS, you guys were right, again! Thanks

We started a project to move the old stove onto our enclosed porch and install the plenum so the convection and combustions fan noise is out there instead of the living room. I want up and out so I can reach it on the ground or step ladder instead of on the roof which is out of the question for me now, too windy for me not to mention the ladder and dragging the equipment up to the roof and down. Hoping for completion this summer. I'd like the first option but we've had snow drifts that high before, so going for the second option.

Question, how does one brush (soot eater) the lower 1/2 of the second option? Bottom up?

First option but with longer vertical piping. If possible, have clean out horizontal( you can pass the flex brush to stove & vertical piping).

I didn't know that either. Their not taking them until later than usual, but still have a filing date by 4/15.

The first option looks better, with the cleanout outside the house and less angles (which keeps the ELV lower). The only thing that would worrisome is if drifts get that high, that clean out T may end up in the drifts, and you won't be able to clean it out. They do make a 4-way clean out T so you can do vertical and horizontal cleaning using the second option(I don't know what brand of pipe you have - check to make sure your bran has one). It's a bit expensive, but may be what you need.

If you do a 4-way, I would think that you should be able to make that bottom angle from the stove a 45* elbow instead, which the soot eater will go thru easily. And it also reduces the ELV a bit. There is also a 4" 4-way T - which with all those angles, you may want to use instead of 3". Still not a fan of the second option, but your circumstances may warrant it.

This morning has been productive. I transferred the 25 bags of TSC MWPs in the basement over to the other stack that is closer to the P61a. I had some really good pellets on the 2nd stack that I had been feeding into the P43, but those have all been used. The MWPs are now on top of the original okie golds (from a purchase years ago. Then I backed the car out of the garage, moved the bike and a bunch of other stuff, and moved the 49 bags of Fusion HW (not blend) and 10 bags of Blazers into the basement. Bonus - the Blazers are now on top of the pile. This skid is closer to the stairs, so shorter trip to go up the stairs (only by 3-4 stpes, but still).

To facilitate the transfer of pellets by being able to leave the door to the garage open, I put the youngest two kitties in "jail". This is not a hardship, and they don't fuss since the use the pen all the time for general sleeping. In fact, Spot (kitty closest in picture), had just strolled in there. Rainey came to investigate, so it was just a matter of encouraging Rainey into the pen.

It is much easier to keep Rita from coming into the basement, a baby gate will do it.

Since the entrance door to the garage was open, the P61a got a little bit of a workout by raising the garage temp from 42* to 47*. The thermostat for the P61a is at the stair wall that is about 10' from the door - which is why I use it instead of the room probe.

ww, I have the basement install as pictured. I only used sealer on the inside(in the house) pipe joints and left the outside joints unsealed. You can easily disassemble the outer pipe and run the brush in towards the house. Don't try this with 3" pipe. Best to go 4" all the way. Too much restriction and it will load up too quickly IMHO.

I agree bb, I had no choice with the basement install. Best to keep the second tee out of the picture if possible and the second horizontal run is where all the crud builds up.

I feel neglectful too WW. Cleaned stove yesterday and pulled the comb. fan. As I was pulling it off I thought "I haven't had this out for a while" Fan was caked with deposits and housing was full of ash. There is a clean out that you access from the exhaust, but you have to put a small hose down the pipe and its very limited as to what you can get to. Lesson learned, I will be pulling the fan and cleaning a couple of times a year from here on in. Stove is so quiet again, loving it.
    Side note, it's sn@#ing again

Ha, I was overthinking it, certainly just pulling off the outside vertical pipe would work well too.

Those look popular with the military. I looked that one up. Ran a short clip of one running. It was noisy, but I am not sure how noisy compared to other large generators. Someone about 500 ft up the road has a generac that is very noisy.. Esp. in the winter. I think it is a smart idea to have a good back up power system. Esp. one all set up to go when you need it.

I have seen one running in person. There is a guy selling these near me and I rode up there this past summer. I was originally going to get a MEP 802a. 5000 watts nominal and 10,000 watts max. It was smaller of course and quiet with all the doors shut but the 803a was almost as quiet and had twice the power capacity. My neighbor has a portable generator and I can hear it with the windows closed in the winter with the stove and TV on. My RV generator is almost silent and the MEP is halfway between the two I would guess. I am going to put a 6 foot stockade fence around it and I'll bet you won't be able to hear it from the street or any of my neighbors houses.
