Just checking in here to see who else plows snow. I live in south Jersey and just do driveways so if we don't get at least 4" and 6" seems to be the real mark, I don't go out because people around here don't want to be bothered with it if it's less than that since many of the times, it's gone in a few days anyway. A little background info: I'm a teacher and about 20 years ago I decided to try making some money on snow days. My brother had an f250 so we went in together on a new plow and did pretty well (on the years we got enough snow.) 5 years ago, he sold his truck with the plow on it so I went out and bought an f250 of my own (needed a new truck anyway) and brand new plow. In those 5 years, I've only put the plow on 2 years for a total of 5 storms so far. But because I live in area where people have money and long driveways, I'm able to do really well when we do get storms thanks to the power of the local town pages on Facebook. The funny thing is if they predict 3-6" and we get 6", I might get about 25 people who want their driveways plowed. If they predict 6-12" and we get 6", I will get at least 40 people who want me to come plow. Needless to say, I love when they pump storms up! Anyone else out there plow? If so, share your story.
I have a plow on my old truck. To me, it's more pain than it's worth. We only get a couple good storms per year. And trucks are expensive to maintain. Plowing is a cut throat business here. And I'm not gonna play that game. Glad you're in a good place to make money! Salt is the money maker here.
I plowed for the state doing interstates and on/off ramps for about 15 years. I’ve also done driveways, parking lots, and snow hauling. Now I just do my own driveway
Have done wayyyyyy too much plowing in my lifetime. Traded my last truck and plow and got a new truck minus the plow. Plowed commercial and residential, normally just a couple inches was a 12 hour run. Longest I ever went was 50 hours, had a couple cat naps here and there. I put one on my tractor and have more fun than ever using that. Typically I like to keep things pushed back but now it is in the woods.
I plow for work when I have to. Don’t really enjoy it. There are a bunch of other employees that have never operated anything other than a passenger car that line up to drive a plow. Job security, you don’t have t hit the bank so hard it packs the radiator! Lol
I can't say that I love plowing but I do love the money that comes with it when we actually get enough to plow.
Good for you if you like plowing I have been plowing for way to many years i have 2years 10 months and 14 days left until i retire from road dept (not that I am counting ) I will be way to glad to stop those 20-40 hour storms are horrible the money is always been good but I take comp time now rather have more days off to cut wood !! Mostly yearly contracts, didn’t get paid by the hour. Mostly commercial lots that had to be kept open. Typically starting at an inch and going until it stops and you get cleaned up. But yes, I could pay off a new truck in two years plowing.
Speaking of plows, I’m looking for a 4 wire fish stock controller for a buddy. Anybody got any leads on a decent used one? They are pretty proud of that controller! Lol
I may have a joystick, don’t have a fishstick though. Yes they are proud of those. If it’s just the pad in an old one gone it is replaceable. Those multi plex plows get pricey with the electronics.

They have a really good system designed but outsourcing all the electronics hasn’t been great for them. Plows aren’t too bad but the sanders are nothing but headaches. I do like the idea of hooking to any plow with just 1 setup. I’m not a v blade fan. My last couple were XLS. 8-10 feet plus a little bit of scoop would outdo a 8.5 XV2 no problem. I’ve been through the factory in rockland a few times. Funny to see them come out of the oven. Some red, maybe a white one then 5 yellow all made on the same line.
Winter here is a little different than where you are located, I say that but we haven’t had much of a winter this year. Typically we always priced contracts on 16 storms a season. Theres always a bunch of heavy dustings that were salted.
Yeah our winters are just a little different haha. It would take less than 15 storms to buy a new f250 around here.
