Here is another picture. Fresh oak. We had already split some off the truck before I remembered to take the picture.

So are you calling that a full cord?

Yep. You got some math that says 8x6x3 isn't a full cord?

    Sure,

First off a truck bed is not 6' wide.

I just took some measurements of my F250 with 8' box and I'll be honest, it is closer than I thought. This is for ranked wood which you have in your pic. but it is not close to being a square load which is very important in this measurement. DSCF0003.JPG DSCF0013.JPG

The dimensions are 8' long, 63" wide not accounting for wheel wells and to the top of the cab, it is 43". So in feet, 8 x 5.25 x 3.5. This equals 147 cubic feet which does meet the definition of a full cord.

But the devil is in the details, in order for the measurement to be valid, you have to have side racks that go to the top of the cab. But the real kicker comes to keeping the stacked wood square ALL the way to the tailgate. As a practical matter you have to taper it or risk having splits fall off on the road.

I once tried getting a full cord in my 8' box with side racks. It was so time consuming stacking all the wood I would never do it again. I had .86 cord, (coming off measured stacks) and I quit as putting more on would risk it falling on the road. Now I'll just loose toss it which raises the factor to 180 cubic feet cord. In the first pic that is about 2 face.

Like I said, I had split a bunch off the truck already. I normally stack about a foot above the cab. I spend some time filling the truck with as much as I can.
You can stop bashing any time, and can come and visit and I will show you just how much wood I can fit on my truck. You are not the first to question how much I can stack on it. I can have rounded sides a bit and still be over a full cord, like you said there is 147 cu ft, so I have 19 cu ft of wiggle room before I even get above the cab. My normal load is about a foot over the cab and all the way to the tailgate, with straps holding the rows together if needed. When I hit the road, you can't fit another piece of wood on the truck. I have absolutely no problem fitting a full cord and then some on my truck. I run out of room before I run out of load capacity. I have 3 ton springs and air ride on a Sterling rear axle. It'll carry whatever fits on the bed, including a 1 ton dually set sideways, lol. It may look like an old truck, but it will do more than most people think.

Here is a pretty average load of logs. There are some 10 and 12 footers in there. Split and stack it and tell me it's not a full cord and then some, even without the extra sticking off the back.

Well , I don't know if that is a cord or not and I am not here to debate that , bash you . question you , doubt you ; whatever.

I will say that without a doubt that it is a full load !
Amazing that the truck barely even squats with all that on there.
Bottom line ; nice load and a full one at that.

Gotta say that is a big load and the truck handles it well.

I once had probably over a full cord in a 3/4 ton 94 Chevy. It had a pipe/ ladder rack on it and I made a crib with 4-5' tall logs stood on end with the rack holding the tops of the logs from going anywhere. I then stacked it full of rounds. The rear springs were finally sitting signs of squatting. It was spring really heavy for only a 3/4 ton truck. I then drove it 200 miles to my house from the Northwoods down the freeway.

    Probably never doing that again.

My Inlaws sold their house that was about an hour from here (and had a wood stove) for a house nearby that had no wood heat...FIL said if I wanted his wood stash I could have it...that, and an old ladder rack...I knew the wood pile was pretty good size so I took some plywood along...good thing I did because I had to use it as sideboards against the ladder rack to get all the wood on...pretty much had the whole bed stacked level with the top of the cab...threw some on my small trailer too...IIRC I had 1.5 cords once it was in the stacks!
Stock 2003 F250 springs were not really happy about that trip, but they did it, no problem...I unloaded as soon as I got home to relieve the springs. Hafta look if I got any pics of that...CRS n all...:picard: Edit: I looked, didn't find any of that load...

I know where my pic of the loaded "Whitey Notford" are. They are on the old computer's HD. Along with our pics from our trip to Fiji. One of these days I'll have to somehow get those off of that HD, orr is it 2 HD's? Those Fiji and other pics are priceless. Ok, now I think I know what I'll do for next year's VD. Get the pics and get some physical photos framed. Not of loaded "Whitey Notford"

I know what you mean about the springs not liking it. The old ones were shot. I replaced the rear end with a heavier one and when I cut the u bolts the springs fell out in pieces. Half of the leaves were cracked in half. Not sure if I did it or the previous owners. Probably all of us. I ordered the heaviest springs I could find and the ups driver delivered them in a blizzard. He said he has never had traction like that, and he saved my stop for last so he wouldn't get stuck. We put one pack in the back seat of the buick and the other in the trunk and I tell you what, they weighed a ton. It took every bit of the two of us to move them and the car was sitting pretty low.
