I just brought in a lot of wood into the garage and into the house. It's supposed to drop temps on Friday. This weekend through like Tuesday is supposed to be single digit highs and negative double digit lows. Add the 40 mph winds we'll get at some point and the wind chills will be nasty.

Another way to tell the difference between a crow and a raven:

Come to my cottage during the summer months. You will hear the crows calling to each other at first light....followed by a gun blast! :rofl:

They are a very smart bird. As soon as they spy me holding a gun, the parties over and they leave. I swear they show up each morning just to play this game.

There is a winter crow roost a few towns over from us. Past winters they have estimated 10,000 crows roost in one are along the river. In the mornings large groups head out foraging and return later in the evening. If you have seen the Lord of the rings movie where the spy crows fly over, it is similar to that.

A murder of crows. Probably the best term for a group of any animals.

    Any update on the earing???

I liked Woodwidow idea of the nylon over the pick up tube o the vacuum; I bet that would work slick!

I spent the day on the snowmobile, taking my nieces & nephews for rides. I remember being that age (4-12) and wishing I could ride on one. They got the chance I always wanted. I even let the older 2 drive it. LOL. It was a good day.

Not yet, will probably be a few days, to get our scheds together since I want to look for it in the daylight. Thank you for reminding me, I meant to respond to Woodwidow and thank her for that clever trick!!!

Never shoot the scout. If he don’t come home the rest go the opposite direction.

Sure that would work, but you wouldn't be able to hear the earing clink around on its way into the vacuum catch cup. That sound would have you look right away. In our one handheld/ upright convertible vacuum, you'd even be able to see the earring after you heard it. Little pieces of rock act just like this. I've tested this many times, thinking that something valuable for sucked up. I think only a couple times it was a nut or an earring backing.

So there I was coming back from work tonight, about 11:30pm, making my 30 mile one-way trip down the highway, when.... trouble. Out of nowhere my truck started skipping badly like it lost a couple cylinders. I could barely keep it at 40. I was able to limp it back to my town to a mechanic I don’t mind using from time to time. Left it in his lot, dropped the keys in the drop box, and walked home the last mile and a half. Brrrrr. Got the stove roaring back to life and now I’m thoroughly beat. I blame this one on the stimulus check I just got yesterday that I never asked for in the first place :) Regardless of the universe’s sense of humor, I’ll have to call the mechanic in a few hours and let him know the story behind the Chevy Colorado that instantaneously materialized on his lot overnight. Always something it seems...

I have both. Normally it's crows, but when it's a raven, there is no doubt. Kind of like the difference between seeing a Hairy Woodpecker and a Pileated

My vacuum isn't see thru, nor does it have a catch cup. I wouldn't want to tear open the bag and start looking for it if I didn't have to. There is so much cat hair, bird dander and pellet dust that gets sucked up that it's a big "no thank you" for opening up that :emb:

I found the best thing about crows is that they’d chase off the red tail hawks when we had chickens. Never minded the crows hanging around in the trees. They set watch-crows in the trees a couple hundred yards apart and they call to each other. It was a regular routine in the late afternoon.

Crows do move a little but not much. They can return in a day.
