I wake up in the morning and get the coffee brewing, then set 4-6 pieces of kindling on the nice bed of coals from yesterday's fire, then place a few small pieces of firewood on top. The rest is magic, lol. Good Morning! The pup seems to enjoy it as well.
I have not either. Winter has officially arrived. I do love coals in the morning. With good dry wood I can get it going without any kindling quickly. I don't always have great dry wood, but I am pretty close to the 3 year plan so I am never burning wet wood.
My GF has many cats... I think they appreciate the morning re-lighting of the stove that I do, more than the food she gives them some three hours later.
Good for overnight reloads too. I put two pieces down on the coals up front, then hardwood on top. Lights up quick and I go back to sleep.
I too love a good coal bed, difference being it's in my boiler & usually consists of about 1/3 to 1/2 cubic yard of coals.No ambiance & the dogs don't lay in front of it, but I only use kindling once a year.
yes, but I enjoy a sub zero f, morning, when I start the coffee and tend the boiler with coals glowing. Dark and quiet. Laying some more wood onto those coals is a pleasure.
