I have been burning Bear Mountain pellets for the last few years and have been happy with them. Now my supplier has these Blazer pellets. It seems like I tried them sometime back, but can't remember. Compairing them to the Bear Mountain, then are 300 btu's less per pound. That's a lot of BTU's per bag. Just wondered if any of you have burned them recently. Thanks in advance.
Yeah we got them here on the East Coast a few years back , at super cheap price for a west coast softie which for us to see softies was rare . Thought they went out of business after that , so wow are they back ?? or are they something else in the bag ?? I liked them , I still have 1 or 2 bags left in my stash . Interested to know . Hope some of the other pellet heads chime in jtakeman
I have a bunch of bags at the bottom of my stash. Same here, bought them in the great fire sale. For us east coasters, I say they were a unicorn opportunity. Hot, and amazingly clean burning. Basically any Douglas fir pellet will be the best pellet available.
one day yrs ago was in HD and right next to the stove chows was Blazers at same price.. 249.00. thought it was a mistake but grabbed 30 bags and tried to squeeze them somewhere in my basement that already was full with 5 skids of pellets..... they we're very hot... thought they went out of business also.. this was maybe 6 yrs ago.
I also remember reading that Tully, at that time the plant(s) were purchased by another company who stated they wanted to continue the Blazer pellet operation / were keeping the brand name. ( I think it was in one of the first "Pellet Mill" magazine issues I received. )
Same company that produced the Heat'rs a few years back produce the Blazers now. I wonder if they use the same raw fiber???
I would like to think that those hamer firs would be as good as firs are exspected to be without going shortcut on processing? Kinda asking are there such a thing as low quality douglas firs...??
I don't think I've seen softwood in the big box stores for a good 5-6 years? Had some AWFs awhile back and those were great.
They were $249 here. I believe that's when the plant closed and they were just selling off the inventory. Feel like they lost money as they either railed or trucked it here....either way would add a lot of money on the cost
I understand that the purple Supreme doug firs are shipped from Oregon to New England for distribution throut mid atlantic region. Bags even state New England's renewable energy etc.
Burning some blazers right now. Got them a few years back at $250, same as Steve. 2 pallets from HD and 2 pallets from artc. Among those 4 pallets there were 3 very distinct different kinds of pellets in the bags. All burned really well though, no issues. Have not bought or burned any since forest energy took over. Robbins in Oxford has been selling them all along. Price is a real issue though. Early buy this year was $370. For what it’s worth, I burned a bag of the Heat’rs DF earlier this season and they were outstanding. They are also from forest energy and likely the same product in the bag as today’s Blazers. Funny thing, there were sold as a DF product, yet there was no indication anywhere on the bag that they were DF. None. In fact, the info badge on the bag indicated “Blends of Hardwoods and Softwoods”. The sniff test revealed there was clearly DF fiber in the bag and they really did burn fantastic, would definitely buy in the future if sold for the good price.
I used to try to tell people that they were not 100% Douglas Fir, and usually was greeted with "yes they are". Fact is, from Blazer... they were a blend, "including" Douglas fir.. They were NEVER advertised as Douglas fir.. Dan
