I finally got tired of buZZsaw BRAD making me feel like a slacker, so I got off my ash and did something about it. I’ve had my eye on this standing dead elm for awhile. Probably one of the straightest trees I’ll get for quite a while. It was a good thing that fence was already trashed because I ended up using one of the fence posts for a nail and the tree for a hammer. I was surprised that I was able to get it all in one load. Trees look a lot bigger before they hit the ground. The obligatory but this time relatively small pile of uglies that come with elm trees. These will go to the shop where I work. Very nice, I love burning standing dead elm. You are right though, they always seem bigger standing. Very nice looking property as well!
He makes us all look bad Nice job How was that elm to split. There is some elm close by that. Well you guessed it BRAD has on his radar.
Split about like I figured it would, as good as it gets with elm. I think even someone that splits by hand would have got through it in good fashion and not cried to much.
Nice peaceful scenery. Do you always fell, buck, haul, split and stack in one day? I usually drag out the process but it's nice to just get it all banged out like you did here.
That does look fairly straight for this area. Nice to get some like that once in a while. Seems like the longest straight piece I get is 6-7ft. I’d like to go do some cutting but have been sick for a couple weeks and am trying to take it easy. thanks for sharing your adventures with us.
That is one of the straightest trees ive ever seen you harvest. Made some nice splits. Will that burn this year? Did you put a MM to it? Great job SHB! Is that the 266 i see? My favorite of your saws. Drove by the "266 house" today.
No often times the rounds will sit in the pickup for awhile, sometimes a week. I’m usually nowhere near this efficient. This was just an exceptionally easy score. No brush or bark to deal with. Able to get the pickup right to it Didn’t have to worry about cleaning up. It all fit in one big load. If there was 2 more of the big rounds I would have had to go back. There’s at least 2 more bigger (much bigger) standing dead elms there, but they will be a lot more work. More limbs, more bark, more cleanup. Probably do it on company time and take one of the other coworkers, and take the splitter to the trees. I’ve kinda got behind on the firewood for where I work.
Good work. You knocked the heck out of that dead behemoth. That’s a ton of work for one day, especially working out in the cold. Impressive
I’m getting pretty close to being on the 3 year plan so probably won’t need it until the ‘22-‘23 season. I checked the first round above the notch with the MM, 40%, kinda where I guessed it might be. The small stuff up high is ready now if I needed it. Dropped it with the 181 and bucked it all with 357 that still isn’t running right. 266 got to stay in the garage out of the snow and wind today
Here it is from late August. Right next to the power lines. Been pushed more into the ditch and some is gone, but good amount still there.
Nope, 181, those metal brake levers kind of grow on you, I like em. And they are made of unobtainium, which is only slightly more expensive than gold and platinum
