When I filled the boiler early this morning it was a bit cooler and I thought it was closer to zero. Was shocked when I looked at the temp.

I gotta say, we've had a week now of 35º down to 20º Don't bother me much but the dam wind is blowing 30mph, right out of the North West. :shiver: Got some red oak in Grandma and she's sitting at 350º all day. :fire::)

Winter has returned! In the teens now with snow. It has been a looooooongggg- azz week at work and I am glad to be home. Even more glad that my wife kept the fire going all day. House is a very comfortable 72 and we're burning white and red oak. I think I will have a beer and snooze in front of the fire tonight. Peace.

Not that I use it much but I'm actually gonna prep and run my snow blower for Sunday!!! :D Not for me/us so much, my truck has a 19" clearence and the Jeep has 11". Were only supposed to get 2" to 4" of snow but I have 3 elderly neighbors who are in their late 70's and 80's, I'll clear their walkways and drive way for them. :) Beside's, the thing needs to be used! First snow for the year here...

Mid 20s, was quite breezy today, wind has let up for now. Came home from work and son had stove back up to temp with mix of cherry and BL. Split and stacked some BL this evening, came in and that stove heat felt so nice. Room @ 73 and enjoying the fire with some Kentucky bourbon.

Nice secondary burn on some black jack oak
Don’t expect this to hold any over night coals or it’s just seasoned to far ~5yrs

NOAA is calling for a low of -8 but I think we'll get colder since it's -3.1 already. Since we heat from the basement, I'll let the stove go cold and use the furnace tonight.

We'll get back burning wood in the morning.

The wood stove in the basement just won't get up here hot enough to knock down the humidity so when it's cold like this the furnace is our best option to do that.

We'll still burn less than a quarter of a tank by the time we're done.

I do like having multiple ways of heating the house, propane fireplace with fan, pellet & wood stove and the furnace. We don't burn when we're not here so the furnace temp usually gets set on 64 when we're gone.

    Here it comes.
    Es7SELtXEAAfa96.jpg

We are to get snow tomorrow am before this bigger part of the storm hits in the afternoon. The local TV stations around here fully know how the lake effect snow can drop mass amounts of snow on certain areas, so they'll just say 6+" or so. It gets interesting when the lake is not frozen over, which is nearly all the time.

I've got a whole gorilla cart filled with wood in the garage. Bring it.

29° out 75° in. Burning ash now, but about to put in ash, Norway maple, and maybe some locust for overnight.

14F here & dropping, clear & calm. It was a beautiful day out sunny & 25 with no wind. Knocked over about 20 trees for cutting tomorrow, perfect weather! We'll see what the storm brings later tomorrow. White Oak in the boiler.
