I had a chance to run the 500 for a bit today. I stopped by to see a friend who bought one. First impression from someone that has been in the game for a long while, is that it really needs some Viagra. Really sloppy from the anitvibe. 28 inch bar. I think you could possibly have issues with it if you were using it for a full time dedicated felling saw. It seemed to be dumping fuel at full sack when not under load. All I did is buck with it for one tank. It was just getting broke in, as Tim said he only had it 3 days, and put five gallons through. it. It is a real 5 cube saw, but doesn't seem to have an edge to me over the 462, Tim bought it so he doesn't have to tune when going from 7000 feet elevation, down to around 3800 in the summer. I think it would really shine there. Nice saw, but I did feel kind of dirty holding it for some reason.? He did tell me he picked it up for 1290.00. Biggest thing I noticed was that it just kept digging. I have a 462 or would consider buying one someday.
The 500 can be lugged down much more than a 562 or 462 though. It doesn’t really shine until it gets a 28” bar on it.
I'm curious as what you saw builders will do with them in the coming years. I just found that my old local saw shop guy was put in the nursing home a few weeks ago. Sad to see the changing of the guard in a way. He was a heck of a faller too.
YouTube has a few videos of some ported 5hundies, might be able to see some of our very own wielding the beast of their new creations.
You know what? That is a great idea. I'll talk to my wife tonight to see how much data we have for that. I have unlimited on my phone I guess. I just don't like the little screen.
I was at my local ACE hardware/Stihl dealer this morning...noticed there was an empty slot for the 500i, so I asked them when they were getting another, they said they have one out on demo that may come back (or not) tomorrow...said if it comes back they'd sell it as a demo for $200 off normal price, which was $1319 (PHO) IIRC...
I got more than that off my package price that wasn't a demo. That said, I know most Stihl dealers sell at full MSRP so it's going to be a deal for someone for sure...
Nope...no saw purchases planned...buying that one would single-handedly double what I have wrapped up in the (10?) saws that I already own... I'll wait and run my brothers when he gets one (eventually)
I think it was $1389 with B/C...don't recall the bar length though...I have to stop there again later today, I'll check...
Stihl is so elusive with their pricing. Husky is much more clear cut. MSRP is right on Husky's website for everything they sell.
