I used to be big into road biking in the mid 90's to very early 2000's before everyone and their mother was texting away on their smartphones while driving. I loved feeling the smooth road beneath me and seeing how much I could push my body to go as fast as possible.

About two years ago after not having ridden in at least 10 years I dusted off one of my road bikes and went for a ride. All I could think about the whole time is which passing car was being driven by some jackwagon texting away or playing pokemon go on their phone and would run me over. I'm all set with road biking for the rest of my life I think. When my kids are old enough I think we'll all get some mountain bikes and go to one of the two state parks within 15 miles of our home.

I did a lot of riding and my old man was a bike tech on the race across America. I was just a kid but it mist have been in the late 80's, early 90's. Do you recall a Martin? He's got a Frejus and a Cuevas.

I ride a steel fixed Factory Five and my road bike is a steel Giordana. Both are full campy with a lugged frames.

Thanks! I never thought I'd ever have such a nice ride, it's a freaking time machine!

They don't make them like that anymore. It's a fine piece of artwork!

I get out now and then. Logged 4.2K miles last year w/280K' climbing.
It has been an ok start to the year.
280 miles in between the snow and ice.
Got out Mon for a shake down after a spoke replacement.
Cold, blustery day around Arvada Res.

Nothing changes your mind like a bike ride.

I have always liked steel better than anything else. It always surprises me seeing so many people chasing after carbon and aluminium. If it is bouncy and uncomfortable to ride, it isn't much fun in my book, even if it is a little faster.

Do not recognize the names. Most times the bike tech has it good but then other times he gets super busy and fixes are always needed fast. Also more than one bike has been trashed during the race. lol

I recall stories of him making fixes while hanging out of a moving van. They don't have competitions like that anymore!

Yes, and things like trying to stay awake and also help motivate the rider and the whole crew and wondering when and where you will get the next shower.
