28F with snow rolling in. I’ve been burning for well over a week straight and the ash/coals are starting to rise in the bottom of the firebox. I just switched to spruce to see if I can burn some of that down and gain a little space before having to empty the stove out for real. Got an arctic blast of air coming at the tail end of the week so I’m moving some more Black Locust in from the stacks in the backyard.

I again found myself with not enough pine or box elder handy to burn down the pile of coals that the good stuff leaves. I need to keep a face cord of that stuff super handy and separate so I can burn down the pile of coals. I have enough of it, it's just under other wood that would only add to the coals.

I got lucky yesterday and it wasn't too cold outside and I opened the air valve and let it burn down pretty darn well before emptying ashes before the snow hit last night.

I wish we could get some of the white stuff. Haven't had hardly any snow this season.

It’s actually been a pretty dry year here too. Typically by this time we have 12-18 inches of snow across the landscape. Before last night, we had some dry patches on the ground. I’m praying for some big storms. I’m already worried about the upcoming wildfire season.

That persistent snowfall that takes forever just to land (since it is so danged light) has amounted to about one inch today. But it has taken 8 hours to accomplish that!

Maybe I better check the milk, eggs and bread....................

Yes. The plow truck made it even more work at the road too. The snow bank was especially tall today. Because we live on a cul de sac, on the "round part" the plow always leaves us a little more" fun" than if we lived on the part of the street where the driveway was completely perpendicular to the street.

The dogs love the snow though. Especially the Yooper pup.

I suppose by now you have cured him of his yooper accent and he's probably on a diet of cheese curds and brats?

He does like any people food he can get. But at 80 lbs at 9 months he's a big boy. He turns ten months at the end of this month. Pretty soon he'll go to adult food. I don't think I've seen Brat and Curd blend dog food, yet.

20F here with about 3" of new snow from the "storm". Dropping to mid teens they say. It cleared up anyway. North wind, so the boiler's burning White Oak.
