I had seen these Stihl chain 2 in 1 sharpening tools but did not really understand how they worked, found a online video from Steves Small Engien Saloon Steve's Small Engine Saloon stihl 2&1 chain sharpening tool video - Google Search
After watching Steve use the sharpening tool for the first time in his video, i wanted to get them for my chains and give them a try.
Glad i did as they really make sharpening a chain simple and quick. Stihl 2&1 Chain sharping tool.jpg.jpeg

Yes they do - sharp and quick! I have 3 of them .... for different size chains. Replaced the round files in the smaller 2 - after 3-4 years of use .... what a difference in feel!

    They are wonderful!

But don't by STIHL branded ones. They arr all made on the same machine in the same Chinese factory, only labeled differently. Pay half price for the identical item on Amazon /Ebay.

That's strange i bought mine at my Stihl Dealer paid $38 US there and they are marked"Made in Germany" not China, Amazon wants $49 US for them that is $11 US more for each sharpner.

Good post, I have never sharpened a chain before in my life, was thinking of buying this tool next time I’m at my Stihl dealer.

Same tool made by Pferd and colored blue, sometimes cheaper than Stihl.

As long as the files are the ones Stihl sells they may be Pfred files since they are not marked i just have to trust Stihl.

I have the 3/8 and .325, they do a great job. 34.99 at my local dealer, fair enough price and keeping it local.

This was my first shot at sharpening my chains just had taken them to my Stihl dealer at $4 a chain, i tested the new Stihl 2 in1 took about 4 minutes a chain on both of my Saws, was so quick and so simple just put saw in vice or hold saw with one hand, keep the sharpner flat at 90 degree and at 30 degree angle, pointed in direction and with just a few quick files and it's ready to start cutting logs.

I have one. Use it after every hour or so of running the saw. Works great

I have 2 chains for my MS 250, was thinking of bringing my saw in sharpening for $8 per chain and buying a new one.
I’m going to pick one of these sharpeners up soon

I have them for both 3/8" and .325. I keep mine in my bag just in case I want to use them in the field. However, I have largely gotten away from using them, and just free hand file and then file the rakers afterwards. My favorite method is free hand filing, once I got pretty good at it, because I seem to get the rakers too low causing a grabby chain when using the 2 in one's. that and I like to use the bigger round files, 7/32 for 3/8" and 3/16" for .325, and I like having more control on raker height.

I guess I have watched too many Bucking Billy Ray videos and prefer to do it the way he does, now. The 2 in ones do work, but I think I now get a smoother saw, and maybe sharper also, but I still have the 2 in ones to fall back on if need be.

wrong, maybe the one you bought is because you chose to buy a cheap knock-off.

The Stihl ones are made by Pferd, a well known and respected German file company. The Stihl 2in1 and Pferd CS-X are the SAME thing, just painted different colors.

One can normally find the Pferd CS-X ones a little cheaper. I know when I bought my CS-X ones they were anyway.

I have a stihl branded 2 in 1 for my .325 chain and it works great! I got the 3/8’a version for Xmas from my folks last month (they ordered it off my Amazon wish list). Great gift, I was really excited!!! But then I noticed it was a cheap Chinese clone. I checked the link on Amazon and sure enough it was listed as a stihl brand made in Germany. Regretfully, I told my folks to return it and report the seller to Amazon. I’m sure that unit would have worked fine...but should have been $20 not $40 not to mention the flagrant dishonesty. I have had this happen with pocket knife purchases on Amazon as well. all kinds of sellers out there. Good news is amazon customer service is great and will take pretty much anything back. Buyer beware though......

There sure is nothing wrong trying the things same way Bucken Billy Ray does it, you watch him and his son and you know he does know a lot about his kraft and he is a real down to earth person, i have learned a lot from his videos.
At some time i will try mastering filing by hand, now being pretty lazy i find the Stihl 2 in 1 quick and simple, for someone not knowing a lot.

That's the way I started out, also. The 2 in one's got me going, and I learned a lot about sharpening saws, just by using them. And sometimes, I would take the raker file out of the 2 in one holder and just sharpen the teeth, without lowering the rakers. However you do it, you also need a raker gauge or three (different types) to check you work and figure out where you are.
