To my untrained eye i would have to say that looks like firewood on photo #2 That's a nice pile of wood you got there!
The wood in pic two looks like black locust. Best btu hardwood you can get. (in our area) Some nice rounds youve got there!
I never even heard of black locust till I got on here. Is black locust common in New England? It looked to be the good stuff so I was curious.
Looks like some nice straight rounds you have there, should make for some nice splits. Others have said, BL grows in small groves here and there. I have noticed that some towns it is more prevalent than others.
Same here. I had never heard of it either. Ive seen it in New Hampshire, but know know how far North it grows. Its a semi scarce tree IMO. Seems to grow in little grows. Ive never seen one in the woods. Grows like a weed tree around here. Along highways, train tracks, abandoned commercial lots. It can grow in poor soil as its "self fertilizing". It needs lots of sun and once choked out of sunlight it dies. It is seemingly rot proof. Outlasts pressure treated 3 to 1. Black locust is gold and stack it separate. Smells bad when burnt. Avoid burning a full load of it alone as it burns that hot. Ive come down with "locust mania" in the last year and cant get enough of the stuff.
