Good morning, sister. Hope you can scratch that splitting itch...maybe the wind will calm down. Have fun whatever you do today. And I hope you don't have a reaction to the vaccine.

Morning all. Below freezing here so frost on the lawn. Sunshine this morning. Could be snow tonight.

Saw 5, speared a couple for a fish fry tomorrow for dinner. They were active before the storm heading in.

Good morning all. Got snow over night and still have some coming down.
Chaz is on 3 days off. Sounds like he will qualify to get that extra $300 per week. He was debating whether to get a new saw or something for his radio. I told him saw.
    Have a great weekend all.

Please describe this spear hole in the ice. Is it a rectangular hole with all ice removed?

    Here you go Mike:

I spear fish out of a 3' X 4' hole cut in the lake ice. The house is 4' X 6' and dark inside (no windows). It is warmed by a propane stove. I am set in 9,5' of water.

Here you can see the decoy and a fish swimming through. This one came in high above the decoy. It was in and out several times that particular day.

Here is one on the spear. The spear itself if thrown like a dart after being lowered into the water above a decoying fish. It is actually more like hunting in many ways.

I get it now. You stand there with trident and strike as seems reasonable. Cool. Very different than the tip-ups used up here.

You saw 5 fish. Over what period of time?

I stand, but mostly sit and just empty my mind and tune into nature, or listen to something. This morning I caught up on the "Bible in a Year" plan on my phone.

The spear I use the most is a 7-tine. I am accurate with it down to at least 12' on a straight shot, and 8' for any type of angle, the problem being the fish can react quicker than the spear speeding toward them, and easily turn out on a dime as the spear goes past it.

Today I saw five between 8 and 10AM. I also saw perch, a bluegill and a nice bass. I angle for those. Today I caught some perch, but the sunfish and bass would not bite. I did catch one 21" pike on the jig.

Like deer hunting, somedays you can sit for hours and not see much of anything. That is fine with me, and keeps it interesting.

    Good chilly morning, folks.

Mid-teens here. A cold but sunny day ahead.

I'll be heading to TSC with a friend this morning. No specific item in mind.

    Stay safe
    Stay healthy
