Id take a cord of dry maple all day long over partial seasoned oak, crap even white pine over that headache
Me ; more than I thought I wood have. Been working it a little harder than in the past. Trying not to pay the gas company any more this year. After this year I wish I was a little more on top of next year so I am working on that now.
Work it brother i havnt even turned my oil heat on in 11 years. Stove setup is perfect here. I got another delivery in the am and then im goin to get some more roadside ash
I'm trying to burn as much as I can. Gave some away too. Trying to make room for more hoarding! I've burned about a cord. I'm home all day, keep pitching it in.
You know you got it bad when your giving perfectly dry firewood away just to get more. Thats hilarious. My cousin is DPW in Nashua and they just had a parade for a long time worker that passes from covid, it was a nice thing they did.
The challenge is to find a friend who will actually come and pick it up! Lot of respect for the DPW workers here, they keep the dump running real nice. I just registered for the vaccine today, 65 and over. Supposed to get an email for when I can get it.
A cord. I think I burn that just to get a fire going. Years past maybe a cord or two. This year I have past that mark
My house is really tight and faces north so the sun warms it all day. Its 30 here now and my fire went out at like 8am and its still 70’s in here
The Poconos here in PA has a lot of dead ash falling down and wood processors are selling cords for $210-240 delivered for mixed hardwoods with a lot of deadfall ash mixed in. But try and get them to stack it...you’ll get laughed at.
I was on Facebook Marketplace and decided to put in "firewood" and a lot of sellers came up. I have gotten behind with the Old Girl being down and did consider buying to help me catch up on the three year plan. Not having a truck has also hurt me on not being on the three year plan as well; I lost out on a lot of wood by not being able to haul it. Storms took a lot of trees down the last couple of years and people were begging to have their lawns cleaned up.
Also some nice equipment to make the job easier. I would like a newer tractor; the Old Girl was born in 1949; she is on up in age. However, I am glad I have her; hopefully she will be back running by the end of the month.
This is an ad from a local logging company, I see this truck running up & down the road pretty regularly. I have seen their set up & they run all the splits thru a tumbler. No doubt the wood is not dry though. I am guessing about 1-1/2 cord to a truck load. I have been kicking around the idea of giving them a call.
The area I live in is full of 2 million dollar homes in 'exclusive' gated communities stuck on the sides of mountains, and privare golf courses. HOA fees can be over $500 a month. Luxury SUV's clog the roads during the holidays as bored 'flatlanders' drive around looking for things to buy. You get the picture. The local firewood guy has quite the operation selling kiln dried hardwood. He sells a cord of wood, delivered and stacked for $600 a cord. (Meanwhile I scrounge the backroads looking for down trees on the side of the road...) I've been approached by these 'flatlanders' while hauling wood in the back of my old 1986 Dodge D50 pickup truck, asking if I'd sell it. I even had a guy ask to swap his "ugly old grey firewood" for the "fresh" firewood I had since he didn't like the way his wood looked.
