Looking to pick up this babe magnet to haul smaller loads of wood (figuring max of 2 cords). 83 C30 C&C with Knapp dump. SBC, 4 speed... Nothing fancy but parts are cheap and easy to find. Thinking of selling the big truck (C70 10 wheeler)
For the right price they are great trucks. I had an 84 stakebody dump two wheel drive geared super low.
Looks like the perfect wood wagon . That looks like the truck i use to use to pick up the girls back in the day
I don't expect to win any races but as long as it can pull grades at more than 20mph and 4mpg like my big truck I should be ok. Have a C50 on the farm with a SBC, 2 barrel, points ignition... in other words LOW HP and it doesn't do too bad with 5 yards in it. (~10,000lbs) I do have a VE pump Cummins holding down the ground I could put into it, but that is a headache and cost I don't want to deal with at this point.
As long as our not in a hurry and dont ever pass a station and dont fill up you will be all right. Could always put a transfer tank in it to fill up while on the road. My k10 pullin a trailer only gets 8 mpg, can't imagine that beast loaded!!
I used to be able to get 10-12 MPG unloaded in my IH 1600 with a 6.9, which was better than my F-250 4x4. Top speed 65 unloaded, sometimes 25 loaded going over mountains. I once was hauling a track loader on the truck and a farm tractor on a trailer and doing 25 MPH over the Blue Ridge. Passed a station wagon that may have been doing 15, made me think I was driving a hot rod.
Thing I love about them is not worrying about a scratch/dent. Occasionally Ole Blue increases it's turning radius by pushing trees out of the way, a few times trees have stopped it - not intentionally either. Not something I'd do with my new black bowtie Yes parts for these trucks are cheap and readily available. Is it a stick or auto 4spd?
Get 9-10mpg in the C50 with a load, so I expect around the same with this. Will mostly get used around the area so no issues with getting fuel.
A buddy of mine had one of those in a 82 one ton Chevy. I think first gear topped out at 5 MPH. There wasn't much that truck couldn't pull in 4 low and granny gear.
My buddy said it rides pretty rough. I dunno, it makes my 15 yr newer 2500 feel like a buckboard in comparison.
