So this afternoon I had to go to the closest real town to pick up my new glasses. I made plans for a couple stops to try and find a couple obsolete saw parts. Turns out the first stop is closed on Saturday. ( and he is probably my best hope locally) Stop #2 is probably THE go to place in town for small engine repairs & the only Husqvarna dealer in town (they sell stihl also) that I know of. I have never really done much business with them. When I was shopping for my 562 the price they gave me was a little over $100 higher than the other place in town that has since changed ownership and no longer carries the Husqvarna line. The one other time I tried to use them, I had the wife drop off my 345 to fix a bogging issue. They were supposed to call me so I could explain it. About 2 hours later they called and said it was ready to go, $100 for a new spark plug, air filter, and fuel filter. And it still ran the same! So today I stop in with very little hope but figure it won’t hurt to try. I explained to the young guy what I was hoping to find and that they are NLA but possibly they might have some old stock on the shelf. I gave him the part numbers and he poked it into the computer and said they have never had either one. Ok, no surprise. Then I asked if they had a “dead pile”. His reply was that anything with a scored cylinder or otherwise not worth fixing they tear apart and sell for scrap about one a year. Separate the aluminum, steel, and plastic and scrap/recycle it. I understand that there’s another Husqvarna dealer in another town to the east about the same distance away from me (65miles) I’ll have to check them out next time I get that way. Most of you are really lucky that you live in places with lots of trees, saws, saw dealers, and saw shops
Short answer: yes for the parts. I’ll probably probably put a post in the classifieds here soon. There’s got to be a bunch of them out there, if someone will turn loose of them. I’ll find some somewhere. It’s part of the challenge of messing around with the older stuff. This was more of a venting of frustration with this dealer, and the throw away society we’ve become
While I do live in the land of massive hardwoods, galore, my saw shop options aren't exactly great. I used to have a good Husky dealer but a large corporation bought them out (Messicks). Those fookers charge me full 100% retail on every single thing. And they, like a lot these days, don't stock sh1t. They have to get a certain dollar amount to even place an order. I gave up. The local Stihl dealer is owned by a childhood neighbor and friend. He charges 100% retail on parts. Only thing I ever use him for is resizing chain. I'll support those good online places that will give a little on price.
I really miss the Husqvarna dealer we used to have in my town. They had good inventory, friendly staff, and gave discounts to repeat customers. They also had Echo saws and line trimmers. The owners retired, and the new owner switched to stihl, it's an OK shop, but not great like the old one was.
I have echo saws as of now. Part of the reason is the local shop, small town family owned echo dealer. They're friendly...but you can tell they don't tolerate idiots. There is a stihl dealer close by, but when I was looking at saws, seems they didn't want to give me the time of day. So I moved on. The Wood Wolverine is right about Messicks.
Makes me realize my OPE is pretty decent. He normally gives a few bucks off, or throws in a small bottle of mix, file or wedge every so often. Latest deal was a 100' roll for cost and he will spin the loops up.
