Clearing some land nearby and they said to take all the firewood we wanted. Mostly some variety of White Oak and Doug Fir. All the trees coming out for about 200 yds back. A few are salable (the huge Firs) but a lot of Oak and lesser grade DF logs for firewood. First load all we could get to was the Oak and a few DF logs. All snarled up in a cold deck. Gave the Oak to my friend. Went back yesterday by my self and asked the Excavator operator if he would shake out several of the Fir logs for me to cut and he said "Sure thing Pops". First time I've ever been called that! Came back a little later and shook out some more and then tossed some very heavy noodled quarters on the trailer for me without my asking. I must have looked particularly decrepit that day. Told me "Just talk to me when you come back and I'll toss out all the wood you want". Fun day of wood cutting (and tiring). I'm going to cut out a football helmet with his favorite New Orleans Saints name and logo on it.

Anytime a excavator operator takes pity on you. Take full advantage of it!!!!

Sounds like it worked out nicely. New housing development?

Nice you don't have to limb them and deal with the brush. Having the logs served up to you by the excavator is luxury!

That sure looks like an all around sweet score. Easy access, clean logs, mechanical help... I’d work that for all it’s worth

Gotta love that! I stopped on the way home last year at a spot sorta like that and they told me they were going to cut it all that weekend. Over a year later and it's still there. Stopped again and he said his friend keeps telling him he is going to get it. Don't think he remembered me.

They were a bit dirty but overnight heavy rain helped that. Wish I had excavator help on every job!

    Ahhhhh. So sorry.
The woods I grew up playing in with my friends ("Rabbit Village" ) .... Is now home to several multi level "low income housing" units. Who would ever guess?

At least these are supposed to be upscale condo style units. Still, more people, more traffic etc. About 4 miles from our house.

Gotta love an "easy" score. Some nice future firewood. Ill refrain from the "Pops" comment since Screwloose beat me to it.
Make sure you post pics of the Saints cut out.

Took the hoe operator his Saints helmet. He declined a photo but seemed very tickled about the gift. May go back at the end of the week. I have other fish to fry right now.

These are my "other fish". My tree service friend turned these logs over to me. 15 logs 4ft to 6 ft long and nice and clean and 6 ft from the trailer. Will make several loads of great DF firewood!
