Can't believe I didn't get zapped today from a ground nest of yellow jackets. Pic wouldn't show much. They were in a hole the size of a little finger, below grass. Couldn't see it at all. I was starting the re-vamp of the grandkids tree house/play house out back and had been cutting old ropes off down at ground level. My head was maybe 18" from that hole. I stood up and 3 came out and flew off. Whew. Gave em 3 shots of Raid and they were still coming out 1/2 hour later... :hair: Finally got em. damm... glad I found this nest (the easy way) before the grandkids were playing there.

Stinny the next time you encounter a ground nest, locate the hole and wait until dark. After dark pour alittle diesel fuel or gasoline down the hole and cover the entrance with some dirt. The fumes will take them all out and they are buried @ the same time. Works every time.

If I have a large above ground nest, I always wait until dark when they're all inside the nest and quiet. Had to keep working yesterday so I zapped em. Never done the gas trick. Good idea. This is the first time I've had a ground nest to deal with. All have been softballs up under eaves usually.

Above ground I use a hoe or if large chemical warfare (always after dark). In the ground chemical warfare after dark.

I haven't done the ninth nest yet. I'll let them get a nice ball started and use the good stuff on it.

Today I asked the guys in my office here in the UK if they had an adjustable wrench and they looked at me like I had 2 heads. They had no idea as to what I was talking about. After a little more discussion it turns out that the proper name for a wrench in the Queens English is "spanner".

If you really want to twist them, ask for them some wire nuts............. did that up here in Canada and they had not a clue of what I was looking for, and that was in a electrical supply store.

You haven't been reading any English novels lately or you would know that spanner = wrench, bonnet = hood of car, boot = trunk of car, petrel = gas, flyover = overpass, etc.

I thought I knew most of them, like the car park, pudding is dessert, trucks are lorries, you buy petrol at the 'garrige', you hire removers when you move, you find your bags at the the baggage reclaim and dumpsters are called skips, but the spanner one just caught me by surprise.

Woke up at 4:00 this morning and it was already 70 out, so I decided it was a damm good day to burn a vacation day! Spent the entire day in the sun with the temps in the upper 80's! Now celebrating a friends birthday with a couple beers! Sometimes an unplanned day of vacation is just what a person needs to unwind! :pete::dennis:
