I turn the corner off my street yesterday afternoon and see this. Big red maple just taken down by the town. Nobody home to ask, no sign. Dang. Wood score on the brain for the rest of the day. Came home that way at dusk and car in driveway. Rang bell and homeowner says his friend coming to get some and to call on Sunday. I go by there a little while ago and his friend just finishing up. Town was there first thing cleaning up. I was ready though! I like it when i have time and empty PU to do so!
Yup! His friend had a few rounds in his truck and was raking up the saw dust. Gone in 24 hours! Cant win em all i guess.
Ive lost plenty of oak scores i just dont post them. If it was BL id be right now. If it was BL i wouldve camped out there last night!
Too bad you aren’t closer Brad. Town cut oak and maple that would take us a week or more to scrounge up roadside. Shoot, even with my tractor it’d take us days.
Hey Matt, good to hear from you. You need any help up there? My work is slow and would always like to meet another CT hoarder. PU, chain saws and a hard workin' hoarder at your disposal!
Well shoot. Its a bit of drive for you but who am I to say no. You can come up, drive up and down my road, chose the wood you’d like to take home, I’ll help you buck and load it. I’ll buy lunch and then we can come to the house and buck til your heart is content.
It's too bad log skidders aren't street legal. Can you imagine what Buzzsaw would bring home every night? What epic stories and pictures we would get. "I was driving around the neighborhood and saw this down tree on someones yard. Well, the homeowner wasn't home, so I grabbed the 8ft diameter maple trunk with the forward grapple, and carefully moved the entire tree to the curb without hurting the lawn. Then I powered up the 50 ton hydraulic PTO winch on the back of my trusty CAT 252B skidder, attached the cable to the tree, lifted the trunk, put the skidder in high gear maxed out the throttle, and floored it. Got the tree home in under 20 minutes. Aside from all the traffic behind me and the skid marks along Rt 7 for 17 miles, nobody seems to have noticed."
I have a tractor with a grapple and forks. I’ve gone through how long I’d have to cut the logs to not be wider than a car width . Maybe I should drag em
I would take it all and bring to your place. Enough around here for me to pick and choose. Ive gone hoarding with a few other CT FHC members and would be cool to go cutting with another.
Uh, I may have skidded logs down the road a time or two. Seems to annoy the random motorist, but oh well. It was only a 1/4 mile to the deck.
My granddaughter’s little plastic sled had to be replaced this winter due to an oak laying in the ditch about a 1/4 mile from me last July. It’s a paved road. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We wouldn’t have to leave my property then haha. I’m so backlogged on bucking and splitting (pun intended)
